I want to be petty and I will be petty. He’s the only male to have as close as many nominations as her. His noms are:
1970 Easy Rider
1971 Five Easy Pieces
1974 The Last Detail
1976 One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest 1982 Reds
1984 Terms of Endearment
1986 Prizzi’s Honor
1993 A Few Good Men
1998 As Good as It Gets
2003 About SchmidtDecember 27, 2016 at 6:11 pm #1201975880
AGREED! He is the worst thing about A Few Good Men. But i have honestly only seen about half those filmsDecember 27, 2016 at 6:11 pm #1201975883
Prizzi’s Honor is a terrible movie.December 27, 2016 at 6:12 pm #1201975884
The Last Detail is his only nomination that he didn’t deserve, however I think that he should have been nominated for The Departed. So I still think he should have 12 noms.December 27, 2016 at 6:25 pm #1201975896
I have never cared for him. I don’t know why but I didn’t find him exciting or anything.
He didn’t deserve nominations for Terms of Endearment, Prizzi’s Honor, The Last Detail and he should have won fucking Razzie for A Few Good Men. Probably one of the worst performances ever given by A-list actor.December 27, 2016 at 6:28 pm #1201975899
Nicholson is the only reason to watch A Few Good Men — queens. Prizzi’s Honor is his weakest nomination. Have not seen the pre-Chinatown movies.December 27, 2016 at 6:32 pm #1201975901
He was whatever in Terms of Endearment. And he was barely in A Few Good Men but they had to give him a scene to ham it up like a motherfucker. To give him an Oscar clip.
Isn’t this based on a play, so I don’t think it was written as an Oscar Clip.
I don’t know but still. They knew his acting style and they wanted at least one acting nomination if Tom Cruise failed to get one (which he did) and that scene was sooooo baity. Literally him playing himself but more heightened and “YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH”December 28, 2016 at 4:36 am #1201976118
I didn’t like him in As Good as it gets. But it might have been because I liked Helen Hunt so much.December 28, 2016 at 5:05 am #1201976128
To me, Jack didn’t deserve his nominations for As Good As It Gets (especially a win over Duvall) and A Few Good Men.December 28, 2016 at 5:54 am #1201976149
Unlike Streep, he hasn’t been nominated for a large percentage of his film work, arguably because there are more good roles for men than for women to be recognized. Indeed, all 12 of his Oscar nominated roles are in the top 25 rated of his imdb filmography. Col. Jessup has become such an iconic role largely because of how Nicholson played it, so I’m going with his performance in About Schmidt as the the role that stands out as his worst. He had the good fortune of such meaty roles for which to be recognized over the course of his career that I really can’t see anything else that comes close.
