Alfonso Cuarón can become only the 2nd Mexican director to receive a Best Director nomination, and could become the first winner. He and his son Jonas could also become only the 4th and 5th Mexicans to be nominated for Best Original Screenplay, or possibly become the first winners (though that’s doubtful, it’s a slight possibility).October 31, 2013 at 7:18 am #116519
As a producer, Alfonso could also become only the 2nd Mexican Best Picture nominee and possibly the first winner. It could be a big record breaking year for Mexicans in cinema.October 31, 2013 at 7:57 am #116520

I don’t know if there’s a precedent, but for second year in a row, a film from one director can be nominated in the main categories. (Picture, Director, 4 acting and screenplay)October 31, 2013 at 2:13 pm #116523
[quote=”RobertoTerra”] Steve McQueen (12 Years Slave) can become the first black person to win Best Director
Though his chances at winning are probably slimmer than McQueen’s, or maybe equal, Lee Daniels for The Butler is also in the running for that distinction.
there is a chance that Lee Daniels could win
not only that, but that he might have equal chances with McQueen.
What? Are you even paying attention to the race, sis?November 2, 2013 at 11:16 am #116524
If Amy Adams wins for “American Hustle”, David O. Russell becomes the first director of two consecutive Best Actress winners.
Nominations for Octavia Spencer, Oprah Winfrey and/or Alfre Woodard would make the first time when one African American actress gets second nomination in Best Supporting Actress category. As of right now, only multiple nominees (Whoopi Goldberg and Viola Davis) scored one in Leading and one in Supporting. And of course if at least 2/3 will join Lupita Nyong’o, it will be a record too.
