What surprise nominations would make you happiest? For me it would be:

Jungle Book for picture, actor, director, screenplay, and everything else
John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead for 10 Cloverfield lane
    Kathryn Hahn for Bad Moms
Mykelti Williamson and Jovan Adepo for Fences
Aaron Taylor Johnson for Nocturnal Animals
    Zootopia for Best picture
Deadpool for any non tech nominations
Ben Foster for Hell or High Water
Angourie Rice for The Nice Guys
    Sharlto Copley for Hardcore Henry

Yes, I am aware that most of these will never happen and some of these might happen.

Everybody Wants Some!! – Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay

The Nice Guys – Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay

    Christine – Best Actress (Hall)

American Honey – Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Lane), Best Supporting Actor (LaBeouf), Best Supporting Actress (Keough), Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography

The Neon Demon – Best Cinematography, Best Original Score

Born to Be Blue – Best Actor (Ethan Hawke)

A Monster Calls – Best Picture, Best Actor (MacDougall), Best Supporting Actress (Jones), Best Adapted Screenplay

Your Name – Best Animated Feature

I’d also love to see Andrew Garfield and Liam Neeson nominated as Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively, for Silence which seems a little “out of nowhere” at this point. Unfortunately.

The Witch being nominated for literally anything would pretty much make my year because it deserves everything. Also want to throw more support behind The Nice Guys, with particular emphasis on the performance that Gosling should actually be Best Actor-nominated for.

Other unlikely ones I’d love to see:
Neon Demon in Original Score, Cinematography, and Supporting Actress (Jena Malone)
    Zootopia in Picture
Colin Farrell nominated for the Lobster
John Goodman nominated for 10 Cloverfield Lane
Tom Hanks nominated for Sully (Why don’t they want him anymore?)

    Paul Verhoeven for Director

That would be amazing, but they don’t have the balls to go there. It’s easier to give him the Cimino treatment.

Cimino was legit to the establishment prior to falling out of favor. Verhoeven deserves inclusion over Gibson.
