I would say that “Godfather” is probably tops, followed by Annie Hall. What do YOU think?
    1970 – Patton
    1971 – The French Connection
    1972 – The Godfather
    1973 – The Sting
    1974 – The Godfather, Part 2
1075 – One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
    1976 – Rocky
    1977 – Annie Hall
    1978 – The Deer Hunter
    1979 – Kramer vs. Kramer

I’m most fond of Cuckoo’s Nest, though The Deer Hunter and Kramer vs. Kramer also grace my list of the 50 all-time greatest films.

What a legendary string of movies. Probably the only decade that consistently saw Best Picture go to the best picture, or at least a very good picture.

My personal ranking goes as follows. The fact a masterpiece like Kramer vs Kramer ranks in the nether regions of the list speaks volumes.

    The Godfather
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
    Annie Hall
    The Godfather, Part 2
    Kramer vs. Kramer
    The Deer Hunter
    Rocky
    The Sting
    The French Connection
    Patton

I would say The Godfather, closely followed by The Deer Hunter. Oh, the seventies… so many great movies…

I haven’t watched The French Connection, but I can’t see it being worse that Rocky. Probably one the worst Best Picture winners ever…
