I think she’s one of our greatest actresses of all time with plenty of outstanding performances like in “The Silence of the Lambs” and “The Accused”. Which were your favorite performances by her and why?

“Elysium” (2013): They wrote her a pretty lame character, but she did her best with the stupid material. Far from being Oscar-worthy or even good, but okay.

“Carnage” (2011): One of the best movies of 2011 with a stellar cast. She was over the top but that’s exactly what the movie needed to work. Her chemisty with Kate Winslet is also memorable.

“The Beaver” (2011): In this case, her directing work was even better than her supporting acting work in the film. I like the way she cares about people – she has some balls to cast Mel Gibson for a lead role.

“Nim’s Island” (2009): Not a masterpiece, but I admit it that I had a few laughts during the movie experience. Foster & Breslin were good together.

“The Brave One” (2007): Her latest baity role. I think I enjoyed her in this much more than others did. I wouldn’t actually give her an Oscar nomination for it, but the Golden Globe nomination was well-deserved.

“Flightplan” (2005): I liked this movie. Once again, it’s not an Oscar-bait, but engaging for most of the time.

“The Panic Room” (2002): I adored Jodie & Kristen in this. And the movie itself is also very enjoyable and exciting.

“The Contact” (1997): I can’t believe that she wasn’t nominated for an Oscar. She was breathtaking in the role of Eleanor.

“Nell” (1994): Well, this was challenging for sure. She looked and acted dumb, but that’s what she had to do. Worthy Oscar-nominee.

“The Silence of the Lambs” (1991): Do I really have to say anything on this? The best. One of the strongest female performance of all time.

“The Accused” (1988): The movie itself is pretty mediocore, but Jodie was great. I think she was 3rd on my lineup, but I’m fine with her winning.

    Ranking her performances:
    1. “The Silence of the Lambs” (1991)
    2. “The Contact” (1997)
    3. “Nell” (1994)
    4. “The Accused” (1988)
    5. “Carnage” (2011)
    6. “The Brave One” (2007)
    7. “The Panic Room” (2002)
    8. “Flightplan” (2005)
    9. “Nim’s Island” (2009)
    10. “The Beaver” (2011)
    11. “Elysium” (2013)

I much prefer earlier Jodie Foster.  I would rank her best work as follows:

    1. Silence of the Lambs
    2. The Accused
    3. Carny
    4. Taxi Driver
    5. Foxes
    6. Candleshoe
    7. Stealing Home
    8. Five Corners
    9. The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane
    10. Freaky Friday

Her post Silence of the Lambs work has been very disappointing.

She was terrific in both The Silence of The Lambs and Taxi Driver. Two fantastic performances.

My favorite performance by Jodie Foster is as Clarice Starling in Silence of the Lambs,
of course, because it’s her best performance and best movie; I have seen
the film probably more than a dozen times and it never gets old.

    I also
really like Foster in two other films: Contact, and Nell. Both films
that showcase Foster’s remarkable talent in creating haunting loner-type characters, one dedicating her life to a lonely scientific quest for truth and knowledge; the other living a lonely hermit-like existence out in the woods.

Taxi Driver. One of the best child actor performances I’ve ever seen.

    Taxi Driver
    Silence of the Lambs

Her performances in THE ACCUSED AND NELL
IMO, are both highly over rated and not oscar worthy
    at all..nomination or win…

She has been a disappointment with her career choices
and because of her entire body of work, I cant see where
she was DeMille worthy last year…I find her over-rated
and unemotional and she never engages me in her films.
She seems like a cold person on film and its probably
due to her coldness in the real world…She seems closed up
and protective of herself and that comes across to me in
    her acting…

I agree. Her performance in The Accused was highly overrated. I have no idea how she was able to win over Streep and Close (Who were light years better in every way), with that hammy and loud performance.

Other than that, she is absolutely one of my favorite actors. I am still haunted to this day by her performance as Clarice Sterling.

Taxi Driver, all the way.  One of the greatest child performances I’ve ever seen on the screen.

I also liked her in Silence of the Lambs and Nell.

The Accused is a very messy and unfocused performance. Can’t believe she even got nominated for that.

Taxi Driver and Silence of the Lambs are acting masterpieces.
