When were Oscar Acting Clips first installed? Way back when I was first using youtube, I vagueley remember seeing the video of Geraldine Page winning Best Actress with the clips, but I really don’t know if that’s true. I know they were showing them during the 62nd awards (The year of Rain man), but I don’t know if they started then or before.
Yes, it looks like ceremony that celebrated films of 1985 was the first one where Academy used clips for actors.
Yes, I am pretty sure it would’ve been the ceremony honoring 1985 films…and this was around the time they phased out showing the clips of the Best Picture nominees at the end of the show and also getting rid of plot descriptions and citing their movie studios.
A few years ago, somebody posted the 1979 Oscars (held in 1980) in their entirety. Clips were used for the lead acting categories, but not supporting. The lead nominees also got an overview of their career by the presenter, complete with pictures from their previous films.
When I first started watching the Oscars mid 60s, they only showed clips for the Best Picture nominee. The clips they showed, as was the case when they started for lead actors, were one extended scene, the way it should be, not a mixture of scenes as is often done (if there is enough time). Not sure when they started for actors.
