Cate is obviously an Oscar-winner (Unlike Adams, Moore, and Benning who are all Oscar losers as of now), but she’s been nominated for so many different performances that I think it would be interesting to discuss what were the times we voted for her. I need to see her in The Aviator and both Elizabeth’s again, but I think I might give her the win in 2006. She was incredible in Notes On A Scandal, though both Babel ladies were amazing too. And I’d give her the win for Blue Jasmine. When did you pick her as best?April 3, 2014 at 10:26 pm #150077
Elizabeth,Notes on a Scandal,Blue Jasmine.
She was great in The Aviator, but I have to see Kinsey before I decide,as Laura Linney has always been excellent, she might’ve been even better than Cate.
As for 1998,I wouldn’t mind if Fernand Montenegro won for Central Station.April 3, 2014 at 10:32 pm #150078
She should have won her third Oscar this year. How an “actress” like Jennifer Hudson won over anyone in 2007 remains one of those moments where you have to laugh and ask how prestigous the award itself is.April 3, 2014 at 10:55 pm #150079
Elizabeth, The Aviator, Notes on a Scandal and Blue Jasmine.
She should be a four-time winner already.April 3, 2014 at 11:03 pm #150080

Matthew McConaughey.April 3, 2014 at 11:14 pm #150081
Blanchett should have been nominated for Benjamin Button in Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for Hanna. Her Aviator Oscar is the least satisfying to me. Because it was consolation for losing Best Actress for Elizabeth and not necessarily the best of the category.April 3, 2014 at 11:32 pm #150082
for Blue Jasmine for sure,
for others, i have to watch all her nominated performance againApril 4, 2014 at 2:33 am #150083
I could never give her the Oscar for Notes on a Scandal since it was one of the phoniest category frauds in recent years, but yes, she gave the best performance in that category.
I would’ve given the Oscars to Montenegro, Madsen, Kikuchi, Swinton and Cotillard in their respective years.
IMO her work in Blue Jasmine is the best lead actress performance to win the Oscar since Holly Hunter so yes, she was the best from the 2013 roster.April 4, 2014 at 4:35 am #150084
2006- NOTES ON A SCANDAL
2007- IM NOT THERE
2013- BLUE JASMINE
The Aviator, for me..is not a great performance..just a total imitation..
She shouldve been nominated for Benjamin Button and The Talented Mr. Ripley..
I would have her with 8 nominations and 4 wins…
IMPRESSIVEApril 4, 2014 at 5:01 am #150085
1998 – WINNER for Elizabeth, though in a tie with Montenegro
2004 – NOMINEE for The Aviator, Virginia Madsen should have won!
2006 – SNUBBED in BEST ACTRESS for Notes on a Scandal, her going supporting was a huge category fraud, but they knew that had she gone lead (as at the BAFTA’s), she would have been snubbed (just as the BAFTA’s snubbed her)!
2007 – NOMINEE for I’M NOT THERE, but she’s third
2007 – SNUBBED for ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN AGE
And a win for BLUE JASMINE. Great work!!!
I would have nominated her for The Talented Mr. Ripley.
So in my book she has 2 wins out of 5 nominations.April 4, 2014 at 5:02 am #150086

She was my choice 3 times:
2006-Notes on a Scandal
Now, in my personal world, she would only have two Oscars because I would bump her up to Lead for NOTES.
For her other nominations, I’d rank her 2nd or 3rd for THE AVIATOR
For I’M NOT THERE, she would be a low 4th.
She also should’ve received nominations for Bandits, Little Fish, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.April 4, 2014 at 6:26 am #150088
As good as she is, I don’t think she’s ever had the best performance in any of her nominated years, except for maybe Blue Jasmine – but she had really weak competition that year.April 4, 2014 at 6:35 am #150089
Only 1998 so far, because I have not seen either Scandals or Blue Jasmine. I’ve completely forgotten she was in The Aviator… *lol*
She was good in I’m not there, but Amy Ryan in Gone Baby Gone was still better. I’d have nominated her for Benjamin Button too. And The Lord of the Rings. She was a wonderful Galadriel. That might be my favorite performance of her, even tough it was just a small role.April 4, 2014 at 6:36 am #150090
I’d rank Cate Blanchett first in her Oscar categories three times. “Elizabeth” (Lead Actress), “The Aviator” (Supporting Actress), & “Blue Jasmine” (Lead Actress). Three Oscars seems excessive for her at this stage in her career though, but all of those wins would have been earned in my book. I also would have nominted her for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” in Lead Actress over a good number of contenders that year.
