There are often those kind of actors who simply just get nominated (Meryl Streep, Jack Nicholson, now Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, etc.). But there are others who are often appreciated for their work yet don’t enjoy the same kind of perennial status that the aforementioned names do.

Which unsung performers do you wish were a few of those that simply just get nominated?

One I would go with is Ben Mendelsohn. Should have a 2-2 record (wins for Mississippi Grind and Starred Up and nominations for Place Beyond The Pines and Animal Kingdom), but frankly, the Academy doesn’t agree with me. Also, Tilda Swinton. Her record should look like this: Chronicles of Narnia, Julia *win*, We Need To Talk About Kevin, Snowpiercer *win*, and maybe even Trainwreck.

Ryan Gosling. Should be a winner for Drive, and nominated in Supporting for Crazy, Stupid, Love. Should also be nominated in Supporting for The Place Beyond The Pines. They should also change their rules about multiple nominations for an actor in the same category – he deserved a Leading nod for Ides of March in the same year he should have won for Drive.

Jessica Chastain. Nod for The Help should have been a win. Leading win for Zero Dark Thirty should have happened too. Nom in Supporting for Interstellar, and in lead for Eleanor Rigby too.

I know neither are exactly under appreciated, but they both deserve more than they’ve been given

Jake Gyllenhaal, Tom Hanks, Tilda Swinton, Emily Blunt, Scarlett Johansson and Maggie Smith seems to be getting hard time getting the nom in the past several years.

But, seruiously, what’s up with Hanks? He is doing amazing work, extremely respected and loved and he is missing the past several years.

I’m not trying to be a bitch here, but Wasikowska was DREADFUL in both “Maps to the Stars” and “Only Lovers Left Alive” (was my personal Razzie-nominee for both), and extremely forgettable in “Crimson Peak”. She’s probably one of the most boring and uninspiring young actress today.
