I didn’t love Snow White and the Huntsman, it was entertaining enough thanks to Charlize, but I can think of 4-5 techs it deserves to be nominated for.. Did you even give it one above?

I would be SHOCKED if Django gets all those noms… Call it a hunch, but I think the movie will be too edgy and profane for Academy’s usual tastes. I know Inglorious Basterds did very well, but this one deals with race and slavery with a darkly comical tone. Just don’t seem like Oscar’s cup of tea. I think it’ll probably get Supporting Actor, Screenplay, Editing, and Sound… 3 or 4 noms.

    Could be wrong!

Lincoln easily will have the most (12 or so)

Les Mis and ZD30 around 7-8, with ZD30s overall much more prestigious

No others more than 6 at most

    Lincoln – 12
Les Miserables 12  ( I don’t see this film getting more than lincoln. 12 is the best it will do. It probably will get no more than 10 or 11.
    The Master – 11
    Life of Pi – 9
    Django unchained – 6-7 or 8
    Anna Karenina – 6
    Zero Dark Thirty – 6
    Argo –  3-4
    Silver Linings Playbook – 3 – 4
    Hitchcock –  2-3
Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – 2
Beasts of the southern wild – 2
    The Sessions – 2
    Skyfall –    1-5+
    Amour – 1-4
    The Impossible –  1-2
    Flight – 1-3
    Moonrise Kingdom – 1-2

Les Miserables won’t get that many nominations. Just because it’s a period piece doesn’t mean it will get in every single category period pieces do well. I can see it snubbed for editing and cinematography, for example. Jackman is also vulnerable, and I doubt it will get nominated for screenplay. Even Hooper might be snubbed.

That said, I think “Lincoln” will be the one with most nominations.

What about Silver Linings Playbook? You’re kidding yourself if you still think Jennifer Lawrence won’t be nominated.

The cinematography in the trailers for Les Mis is phenomenal, I don’t see it missing out there. The direction is getting panned, particularly for Hooper’s love obsession with close-ups and wide lenses (one of my biggest problems with The King’s Speech), and I agree that he is vulnerable.

I thought Les Mis looked ugly beyond what was necessary and the overall visual design distracting and repetitive. It still likely gets in, but not a lock.

It is very vulnerable on editing, directing; sceenplay is unlikely.

I should amend to say it is possible that Pi might also be at 7-8 with ZD30 and Les Mis, but again, with a bunch of techs.

I feel Lincoln, Les Mis, ZD30 and Life of Pi will all have a high number of nominations.
