Now that most of the fields have predix centers open, I thought I’d break down the nom counts as of right now based on the odds in each field.

Added consideration: since the expansion of the BP field, no film has received 6 nominations without a 7th in Best Picture and only four times has a film received 5 nominations without a 6th in Best Picture (Interstellar, Foxcatcher, Skyfall, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).

If current Gold Derby odds resulted in the nominations, here’s how the more-than-one counts would be (films in BP top 10 bold):

    Bridge of Spies – 7
    Carol – 7
    The Revenant – 7
    The Danish Girl – 6
    Spotlight – 6
    The Hateful Eight – 5
Mad Max: Fury Road – 5
    The Martian – 5
    Brooklyn – 4
    Joy – 4
    Steve Jobs – 4
    Inside Out – 3
    Room – 3
Star Wars: The Force Awakens – 3
    Cinderella – 2

As you can see, The Danish Girl would theoretically break the rule of no +6s being BP-nominated and Mad Max: Fury Road would be the 5th film to get 5 without a 6th BP nom. Very interesting imo.

It should also be noted that predix aren’t up for the two Sound fields or Song which could raise the counts for some of the films–specifically, Mad Max.

Based on what’s in my predictions centre so far, the ten I have in Best Picture so far nominations tally:

    Carol – 9
    The Hateful Eight – 8

    Steve Jobs – 7

    Bridge of Spies – 6
    Joy – 6

    The Revenant – 6

    Brooklyn – 4

    Inside Out – 4

    Spotlight – 4

    Room – 3

Aside from those ten, Star Wars is currently on 3; The Martian, Macbeth, Mad Max and The Danish Girl have 2.

Thank you for this thread Tom! I realized how much I wasn’t predicting Spotlight, and put it in for Film Editing and Supporting Actor for Mark Ruffalo, replacing Room and Paul Dano for Love & Mercy, respectively. SORRY Paul, the Oscar’s just seem to like Mark more w/ 2 nominations so far in his career and none in yours. Not even a Supporting Actor nod for There Will Be Blood.Cry

I am only listing the categories that are already available to predict on Goldderby. Keep that in mind:

Mad Max: Fury Road (8 nominations) PLUS obviously Sound Mixing and Sound Editing

    Bridge of Spies (8 nominations)

    The Danish Girl (7 nominations)

    Spotlight (6 nominations)

    Carol (6 nominations)

    Joy (5 nominations)

    The Martian (5 nominations)

    The Revenant (5 nominations)

    The H8ful Eight (5 nominations)

9 nominations: The Martian and The Revenant

    8 nominations: Creed

    7 nominations: Spotlight

6 nominations: Brooklyn, The Danish Girl and Mad Max Fury Road

5 nominations: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

4 nominations: Bridge Of Spies, Joy and Room

3 nominations: Carol and The Hateful Eight

2 nominations: Anomalisa, Cinderella and Steve Jobs

1 nomination: Avengers: Age Of Ultron, 45 Years, The Good Dinosaur, Jurassic World, The Lady In the Van, Macbeth, Mustang, A Pigeon Sat On A Branch Reflecting On Existence, The Peanuts Movie, Shaun The Sheep Movie, Son Of Saul, Trumbo and Youth

I don’t think the academy is going to embrace Carol the way many on here seem to think it will – this has nothing to do with quality, just a gut feeling. Obviously, I think Creed is going to do great. I’m still not sure about In the Heart of the Sea and am waiting to see it first. MMFR and SW:TFA would get six and five nominations only in the craft categories.

I still don’t get why Creed is considered an adapted screenplay when it isn’t an adaptation of anything, just has two characters from previous films. It feels to me like an original screenplay. Adapted Screenplay is too crowded, but if Creed were considered an original I would replace Youth with Creed.
