What do you think?
Singin’ in the Rain, definitely!
Love High Noon, though, so that would have been my pick from the nominees.
I’d go for the underrated Greatest Show over the wildly overrated High Noon, but The Quiet Man should have won among the nominees.
Those circus-loving freaks can bite my ass. If Lancaster had “missed”, it wouldnt have bothered me.
The classic Rashomon, could have won here. From the nominees, I’d go with The Quiet Man. Really. I HATE The “Greatest” Show on Earth. Some show.
Singin’ in the Rain, oh wait, It wasn’t nominated…
The Quiet Man, then High Noon.
The worst year for best picture nominees..
My favorite film of 1952 was
COME BACK LITTLE SHEBA
The Greatest Show is still in my opinion one of the worst BP winners ever. The Quiet Man really is a better film than High Noon though, but HN is much much better than The Greatest Show. However, the best film didn’t even get nominated: Singin’ In The Rain.
The soapy, silly “The Greatest Show On Earth” is in my mind the worst best picture winner (followed by “Around the World in 80 Days” amd “The Lost Weekend”) so it is an easy choice for me to say “High Noon” is better even though I find that film a bit dull and obvious. The lovely “The Quiet Man” is my favorite of the nominees by far and as most here seem to be saying “Singin’ In the Rain” would be my actual best picture choice. Would probably still give John Ford best director though.
