Which two-time actor winner will be next to win a third Oscar? Only three actresses have ever accomplished this feat (Walter Brennan, Jack Nicholson, Daniel Day-Lewis).

Here are the 9 living men that are eligible for this possibility (although one is retired):

    Michael Caine
    Robert De Niro
    Gene Hackman
    Tom Hanks
    Dustin Hoffman
    Sean Penn
    Kevin Spacey
    Christoph Waltz
    Denzel Washington

They might give it to Denzel as early as next year.

Washington and Hanks are the likeliest two I guess, but since an expiration date is not slapped on male actors in Hollywood, I can fairly easily imagine any of them winning again.

Yeah, besides Hackman, who’s retired, I think it’s wholly plausible any/all of these guys could take home a 3rd. My hunch is De Niro, Hanks, Spacey and Washington ultimately do it.

Adding to the chorus: Denzel, this year.

FENCES is going to be major.

    Denzel Washington, Fences

Can we get Al Pacino something great? He deserves to be in this club. Maybe The Irishman?

Michael Caine should have won last year. He was robbed for Youth and I don’t see him doing anything better in the near future so not him.
De Niro is basically a joke now so not him either.
Hanks couldn’t get in for his last two movies despite both of them being BP nominees and being able to get a Supporting Actor nomination and a win in the same category, so no not him either.

Denzel Washington might benefit from the unnecessary backlash happened in the last two years.
Christoph Waltz is a great actor and I am sure he’ll have other chances to win another Oscar

The others are probably not getting in either

I think Denzel is most likely, followed by Penn.

    Tom Hanks for sure.
    Washington might for Fences
Waltz will probably pull it off
DeNiro will if he works with Marty or David some more
    Spacey could pull it off
Hoffman seems done unless he gets a big swan song movie like an On Golden Pond
Caine could but in Supporting most likely
I think people are done with Sean Penn
Hackman’s 3rd will probably be an honorary one

Hanks has yet to be nominated again and two of his most recent movies were best picture nominees — your for sure is pure want on your part.

Washington is very underrated with awards watchers and pundits. The Academy has acknowledged him with six nominations over four decades with two wins (four lead nominations) and he remains popular with his peers and the public. He’s also popular enough at home to not need BAFTA recognition to make it in the final lineup. You’re being dismissive of his chances which are very strong in the wake of Oscars so white.

Waltz’s second win is too polarizing to see him as a sure thing. Spacey’s personality is too polarizing to see him as a return nominee.

Caine wants a third in Lead which has never happened when a previous two-time winner received their Oscars in supporting.

Hackman has been properly recognized with his two wins. Since he’s retired I see no reason why the Academy should throw him another statuette. He should be up for Kennedy Center Honors recognition.

I would love to see Pacino in a prestigious project with some awards traction. It seems like he’s trying to work on some indie fare with projects like The Humbling and Manglehorn, but they were not well received.
