As this dust begins to settle on this Oscar race, which of this year’s potential winners do you think can garner standing ovations from the Oscar audience?November 27, 2013 at 4:35 pm #119554
I use this as an imperfect gauge for guessing winners – it sometimes is significant, sometimes not – but for me the most likely winner in any category to get a spontaneous, enhtusiastic, heart felt SO would be Bruce Dern, which is one of the reasons I regard him as co-favorite.
Cate Blanchett might get one as well, but more respectful than passionate.November 27, 2013 at 4:40 pm #119555
’12 Years a Slave’/Steve McQueen.November 27, 2013 at 4:41 pm #119556
If he were to be nominated, and win, I think Leo DiCaprio gets a standing ovation.November 27, 2013 at 4:49 pm #119557
Lupita Nyong’o I think could get a Standing O.November 27, 2013 at 5:00 pm #119558
Maybe Bruce Dern, if he becomes the Oscar frontrunner. Possibly Cate Blanchett as tribute to her career. Or if someone trips on their way to the stage. It’s hard to tell…remember two years ago, every acting winner except Jean DuJardin had a standing ovation.November 27, 2013 at 5:53 pm #119559
Alfonso Cuaron and Lupita Nyong’o could get standing ovations if you ask me.November 27, 2013 at 6:10 pm #119560
Bruce Dern, Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, maybe Cate Blanchett, JLaw got a pity standing O last year so a back-to-back win might get her another…
Oh, and definitely Steve McQueen.November 27, 2013 at 6:38 pm #119561
Whoever wins Best Actress will get a standing ovation.
Oprah will get one if she wins.
Leo DiCaprio if he wins.
Steve McQueen or Alfonso Cuaron will get one.November 27, 2013 at 7:24 pm #119562
They don’t typically give directors standing ovations, right? I know Ang Lee got one last year, and Kathryn Bigelow did in 2010, but the crowd usually is seated. Zippo for Peter Jackson, Clint was kinda half/half, none for Coens, nor the Weinstein directors.November 27, 2013 at 7:31 pm #119563
McQueen, Dern, and Blanchett, particuarly because of the narratives they respectfully carry, would get a standin O.November 27, 2013 at 7:44 pm #119564
I think that whoever wins the acting awards will get an ovation. Particularly anyone from 12 years, Oprah, or Cate Blanchett.November 27, 2013 at 8:13 pm #119565

The acting categories this year are full of veterans, so they’re all getting standing o’s.
