Last year no one thought Ex Machina would win Visual Effects over Star Wars and Mad Max. Few predicted Mark Rylance to beat Stallone.
And Spotlight winning Picture of the year with just one other win (Originals screenay) over The Revenant, Room and The Big Short was unusual. What movies do you think are going to win in unexpected categories? Is Kubo and the Two Strings a strong contender in Visual Effects? Is Hidden Figures likely to win Adapted Screenplay over Moonlight? Are either Arrival or Hacksaw Ridge winning sound Editing or is La La Land sweeping up the sound categories? The Salesman over Toni Erdmann? Barry Jenkins over Chazelle? Hell or High Water over Manchester by the Sea (O. Screenplay) ?

    What are your thoughts?

    Isabelle Huppert for Elle! (: (: (:

Not sure if it will be a big surprise but I am predicting Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them will win for Production Design and Costume Design…

“Moonlight” upsets “La La Land” not likely but, it could be another “Spotlight” over “The Revenant”

Not sure if this is considered an upset anymore but, Washington over Affleck.

    That’s all I got.

I think Jeff Bridges could still upset Mahershala Ali for the older Academy members who love Hell or High Water but don’t know what to give it. I think Arrival should win editing with its very specific flashback structure and how it is at the crux of the reveal of the film. I don’t think it will win but it would be the surprise I’d be happiest with.

Right now I have Moonlight winning Cinematography. Didn’t think this was much of an upset but I saw Goldderby has it ranked 3rd.

If Hidden Figures had been up for more than 3 Oscars I would predict it to upset for BP. However, 3 nominations doesn’t seem like enough support to have it surprise in such a huge way. And we all know it’s def not winning SA.

Let Hacksaw Ridge win Sound Mixing please! The guy Kevin O’Connell has been nominated 21 times and never win!
