It is no secret that Meryl Streep is the greatest living actress. She has set a record for Academy Award nominations and has won three of them during her career.
However, Meryl is 63 now. That still allows her to act, but within the next 25 – 30 years, she might not be able to make such an impact as she has now with her fine performances.
I understand that Meryl can’t (and won’t) be replaced, but who will take her position as greatest actress after she retires or passes on?
My thoughts are either Anne Hathaway or Kate Winslet.

I belive it is going to be Amy Adams.November 11, 2012 at 2:47 am #75216
Hmmm… an actor spanning at least four decades of longetivity and relevence, with scads of wins and nominations, who can master both comedy and drama and heck, even a musical, is inoffensive and respectful of others….
My guess is that it’s someone who hasnt been born yet.November 11, 2012 at 4:15 am #75217
Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett.November 11, 2012 at 4:16 am #75218
I think Jessica Chastain is to become the next Meryl Streep in terms of nominations. She may get her second this year and she has already planned more films to come and like Meryl her first known year was many supporting turns. I think that when she is Meryl’s age she may be more respected. Amy and Anne do not have the talent Jessica or Meryl have which is why I think they will not become the next Meryl Streep.November 11, 2012 at 5:12 am #75219
As of right now, no one comes even close to Queen Streep, IMO. I’d say maybe Kate Winslet, Chastain or Lawrence (it’s still to soon to tell with Lawrence, and well, with Chastain too, but both have tremendous potential).November 11, 2012 at 5:18 am #75220
Kate Winslet!November 11, 2012 at 5:48 am #75221
I agree that maybe it was someone not born yet. Who knows? There might be no next Meryl Streep, and someone will start from scratch and build a name for her own self.
These Winslet mentions somewhat make me feel somewhat icky because I think her real peak was with Eternal Sunshine, and the rest has been nothing but pure bait for Oscar or awards recognition. Even Mildred Pierce. But she’s really good and she has the chops. I just don’t think she’s in the same level as a Blanchett or a Kidman to be quite frank.November 11, 2012 at 6:47 am #75222
Elle Fanning… You’ll see!November 11, 2012 at 9:21 am #75223
The only other actresses that give me something close to a Meryl Streep vibe are Tilda Swinton and Toni Collette but they’re both past their 40’s.November 11, 2012 at 10:33 am #75224
The greatest living actress? Seriously? LOL! You meant the most overrated living actress. Here, I corrected you. You’re welcome.
The most overrated actress… so many choices… Marion Cotillard? No, she’s just the flavour of the month. Viola Davis? The same. Oh, I know! I’m guessing Jessica Chastain but she recently fucked up on Broadway… so no. Oh, I’ve got it! Kate Winslet! No, people are now over her… Jennifer Lawrence? Um, no… Okay, I give up. I have no idea who’s gonna be the next Meryl Streep. LOLNovember 11, 2012 at 10:35 am #75225
Lol Sasha! I was wondering when you’d chime in.November 11, 2012 at 10:43 am #75226
