Make your suggestions on who the Academy should get for the new telecast host. And don’t say Anne Hathaway or James Franco.
I’m hoping the Academy gets on their hands and knees and begs Hugh Jackman.November 9, 2011 at 11:43 am #42770
Well didn’t Billy Crystal say that he wanted to host again?? Mayb this is a sign that he should host again…November 9, 2011 at 11:47 am #42772
Please no younger people. I hope they brign back Billy Crystal or even Whoopi.November 9, 2011 at 11:53 am #42773
Given this mess, I think they need someone that is a known quantity. Know what the person brings to the table. They don’t have to be great, but they need to be reliably good.
Jackman would be a good choice. Ellen Degeneres might fit this as well. Billy Crystal would fit and the nostalgia might bring some viewers.November 9, 2011 at 12:09 pm #42774
First they need to pick the new producer, who chooses (with the Academy’s approval) the host.
DH is hearing rumors of Brian Glazer.
I suspect Tom Hanks (who is a BoG member) may end up stepping into the breech as host.
Billy Crystal? He’d be minimally competent, but totally a desperation-no-one-else-wants-to-do-it choice.November 9, 2011 at 12:54 pm #42775
I think Billy Crystal is the most obvious choice right now.
I wouldn’t look desperate (as some already have said), it wouldn’t look insulting in a “we wanted Eddie…what the hell you do it”. It would look like somebody famous enough, big enough, experienced enough doing a favor and stepping up in this situation.
If not Crystal, then somebody along the lines of a Baldwin, Goldberg, Martin, Hanks, kind of name. Neither would be my choice, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Is that Wolverine sequel nobody asked for happening yet? I have a feeling Hugh Jackman is on that list.
If I were voting, I would go with a duo like Poehler/Fey. I know neither one can actually do it because of time, specially Tina considering 30 Rock would barely be back on the air by the time the Oscars come. Plus her newborn daughter. But this pair would be perfect for me.November 9, 2011 at 1:01 pm #42776
Am I the only one who thinks that they might try going for an openly gay host? Like Neil Patrick Harris or Ellen Degeneres? I could see it happening, after all this controversy.November 9, 2011 at 1:03 pm #42777
Neil Patrick Harris would complete the hosting trifecta if they choose him.
I’ma say Ellen.November 9, 2011 at 1:12 pm #42778
Though NPH is the host w/the most, I think getting Tom Hanks would be an excellent choice.November 9, 2011 at 1:14 pm #42779
Tina Fey/Amy Poehler duo would be cool…November 9, 2011 at 1:16 pm #42780
I think Hanks may feel an obligation – my understanding is that he is close to Tom Sherak, was the one who suggested him as President when he (Hanks) was approached about this two years ago, and may figure he owes it to his fellow governors and Sherak to step in.
My preference is that they find some way to have major stars – those who might be able to carry this off (Meryl Streep, Sandra Bullock, someone else suggested Kevin Spacey, although he’s no longer a big star) be the host if ever possible. It should be a movie show, with movie people hosting – big movie people.November 9, 2011 at 1:43 pm #42781
Kris Tapley passes on an idea that apparently had been pushed earlier – the Muppets should host the show.
I sort of like the idea.
It would be original, the writers would have a field day with it, they could get away with ad lib comments most presenters and a human host might be uncomfortable with.November 9, 2011 at 1:45 pm #42782
I remember 1984….a fast paced, terrific oscar show..with 10 movie star hosts…all interconnecting and either giving out some of the awards or presenting even bigger stars to do so..back in the days when we didnt have to see all these marginal stars from bad movies or television stars in bad shows…
its the academy awards…..well it used to mean something…I suppose they will need to fill Murphy’s shoes with another person of color or there will be a negative backlash in that direction..so i am betting on
WHOOPI GOLDBERG… again
I always felt she did a great job in her previous hosting…November 9, 2011 at 1:51 pm #42783
