Second was probably Ryan O’Neal in “Love Story” though Melvyn Douglas was so great in “I Never Sang for My Father”.
Tough call, given Scott was leaps and bounds ahead of the pack. I would think Nicholson, Douglas, Jones and O’Neal is how the rest of the order went. MacGraw, not O’Neal, was seen as the major victory Love Story could pick up.
