When you make your predictions, it is typically going to be someone that
doesn’t have something in strong contention this year and willing to
show up (especially in a year following Woody Allen).

Here are the ones I think are most possible this year…

    WOMEN —
    Julie Andrews
    Carol Burnett
    Glenn Close
    Sally Field
    Jane Fonda
    Whoopi Goldberg
    Goldie Hawn
    Diane Keaton
    Angela Lansbury
    Helen Mirren
    Mary Tyler Moore
    Susan Sarandon
    Meryl Streep

    MEN —
    Alan Alda
    Jeff Bridges
    Mel Brooks
    Michael Caine
    Bill Cosby
    Tom Cruise
    Billy Crystal
    Johnny Depp
    Robert Duvall
    Tom Hanks
    Ron Howard
    Samuel L. Jackson
    George Lucas
    Steve Martin
    Eddie Murphy
    Bill Murray
    Mike Nichols
    John Travolta
    Denzel Washington

I kinda hope they give it to Robert DuVall, Steve Martin, or Angela Lansbury.

    Jane Fonda

What about Francis Ford Coppola as a possibility?

I doubt Diane Keaton is next. She just accepted for Woody Allen last year.

They will probably go for “younger” this year as in someone in their 50s or 60s since they went with Allen last year at 78. Foster was 50, Freeman was 74?, DeNiro was 67ish, and Scorsese was 66 so their seems to be a pattern of going so it might be someone in their 60s this year.  But I would love to see Andrews, Brooks, Fonda, or Crystal

And was there a reason no award was given out in 2008?

Writer’s strike that year meant no ceremony.

Oh yeah. I didn’t realize they had no ceremony. I was fairly young when that happened how did they go about giving awards that year? I only remember Queen Latifiah doing a special ceremony for People’s Choice reading all the winners herself.

Glenn Close, I hope, but reality is probably Jane Fonda.

I feel like Fonda wouldn’t get it this year because she was just given the AFI Lifetime Achievement award

They will not give it to Jane Fonda this time since she just received the AFI Award.

It is a rare year that Tom Hanks has nothing in contention, so my guess is that it will be him.

If not, Denzel Washington seems a very likely choice soon.

The same thing happened with Morgan Freeman. He received the AFI Award in 2011 and then the Cecil B. DeMille in 2012. So, it’s possible.

That would be incredibly unlikely to ever happen again.
