The HFPA could announce the 2017 Cecil B. DeMille Award recipient anytime in the next couple of months (based on the past three announcements). Who do you think is the most likely?

Keep in mind it is typically a film person more than television, the age is usually 50+, and it almost always someone that will not be a nominee at the Golden Globes for the same ceremony.

Previous honorees still living (therefore not eligible):

    Kirk Douglas (68)
    Sidney Poitier (82)
    Clint Eastwood (88)
    Doris Day (89)
    Robert Redford (94)
    Sophia Loren (95)
    Sean Connery (96)
    Dustin Hoffman (97)
    Shirley MacLaine (98)
    Jack Nicholson (99)
    Barbra Streisand (00)
    Al Pacino (01)
    Harrison Ford (02)
    Gene Hackman (03)
    Michael Douglas (04)
    Anthony Hopkins (06)
    Warren Beatty (07)
    Steven Spielberg (09)
    Martin Scorsese (10)
    Robert De Niro (11)
    Morgan Freeman (12)
    Jodie Foster (13)
    Woody Allen (14)
    George Clooney (15)
    Denzel Washington (16)

The past three have been men, so it is very likely to be a woman this time. The most likely candidates IMO are…

    Julie Andrews
    Sandra Bullock
    Carol Burnett
    Cher
    Glenn Close
    Geena Davis
    Judi Dench
    Sally Field
    Jane Fonda
    Whoopi Goldberg
    Goldie Hawn
    Diane Keaton
    Jessica Lange
    Angela Lansbury
    Helen Mirren
    Julianne Moore
    Mary Tyler Moore
    Susan Sarandon
    Maggie Smith
    Meryl Streep

Why not Kathy Bates? Her film career started in the 70’s. But her breakthrough occurred 26 years ago and she has never left. She received two Globes in her career. She has two SAG awards (individual achievements), two Emmy awards, a Critics Choice prize, plus two BAFTA nominations, and a Tony nod. She could use the attention as she pushes forward in her life and career. She turned 68 this year.

Or Liza maybe? A two time GG winner out of a half dozen noms…or has she not been active enough recently? Id also love to see Sigourney honored at some point in the future.

I think the five with the highest chance this year are:

    1- Ron Howard
    2- George Lucas
    3- Julie Andrews
    4- Whoopi Goldberg
    5- Kevin Costner

I would hope it would be a woman but this group doesn’t care how long it has been within honorees.

I suspect it’ll be Julie Andrews or Jane Fonda. That said, the HFPA hasn’t been as reliable in honoring true legends with this prize in recent years (unlike SAG with its Lifetime Achievement Award), so it could be someone a lot younger and less deserving.

Ron Howard is not on the short list for this crap.

She needs an honorary from the Academy before any other honor will suffice.
