It is pretty clear now that Bryan Cranston, Leonardo Dicaprio, Michael Fassbender, and Eddie Redmayne are locks for nominations for best actor tomorrow but since that fifth slo changed at the Globes and SAGs I think Johnny Depp and Will Smith will both be snubbed. We know that almost every year at least one actor from the Golden Globes comedy category gets nominated for best actor at the Oscars. So since Matt Damon won that category at the Globes will be he nominated in the fifth spot tomorrow or Steve Carell for the Big Short which is getting Oscar buzz for best picture??

I guess Damon missing SAG is more relevant because his movie had already been seen… still think he gets in though, he’ the whole movie.
Eddie Redmayne has to be vulnerable here though, so if both make it in I’m guessing he’ll be the one out.

Sometimes, or perhaps more often than not, an actor/pic/director etc can suddenly gain momentum at the 11th hour that catches us all by surprise.
What I love about this year is that, anything can happen. (rubs 4-leaf clover)

And yeah at times I wanted to take out Eddie Redmayne just for fun. I think it’s a possibility that The Danish Girl crashes hard tomorrow and with Vikander’s confusing campaigns, she might aswell end up in supporting for Ex Machina instead and The Danish girl is left with a costume or production design nod or whatever. But if you really want to be right, the smart thing to do is to predict them both exactly where they are.

January 13, 2016 at 6:04 pm #209168I actually dropped Bryan Cranston in order to put both Matt Damon and Steve Carell in. I know this may be dumb, but I just went out on a limb. I noticed that the last two years, all five Best Actor nominees were from films with at least five nominations. I know it’s a short time to analyze but it seems like a going trend. I think The Martian and The Big Short will both clear five nominations but Trumbo will come nowhere close, therefore I dropped Cranston.
