I REALLY want Kate Winslet to star with Cate Blanchett in “Lucy and Desi”. Kate would be Vivian Vance (Ethel) of course. if she does and Aaron Sorkin writes her role very meaty, I can see Cate and Kate both winning Oscars.

Winslet is as openly hungry for awards as anyone I’ve ever seen, but I can’t see her playing a supporting role in a biopic focused on the life of Blanchett’s character. She’s not above playing supporting or ensemble roles, but in a film that’s clearly an Oscar vehicle for one of her biggest rivals? She’s got some pride and ego, surely.

What are your thoughts about McDormand repeating this year? It irks me all her triple crown prizes are leads when she is principally a character actress who hardly headlines anything.

Nicole Kidman, she’s really the better and more versatile actress anyway.

I keep hoping she smartly frauds into Supporting at the Oscars for The Beguiled so she could maybe get a nomination coming off of the buzz of her deserved Big Little Lies Emmy win. What do you think?

Sacred Deer definitely isn’t her vehicle for a nomination. It wholly belongs to Colin Farrell. I need to watch Coppola’s movie today to continue my Kidman mania.

Kate Winslet doesn’t mind starring opposite bigger female stars than her. She has already played co-lead opposite Cammy Diaz and Jodie Foster.

I won’t lose any sleep over it. McDormand is an undeniably skilled character actress (within a certain type), and it’ll be her 5th nomination if she repeats. She’s not exactly someone that comes immediately to mind when I think of the all-time great actresses, but you couldn’t say she’s fluking it either. She’s put in the hours. Yes she’s hardly ever the lead in anything, so 2 lead Oscars (and her other triple crown awards) seems at odds with the majority of her career, but I don’t have a problem with her being a two time winner per se.

I’ll be Frank. Since I Stan for Kathy Bates and she’s a lone one and done in Best Actress similar to Frances McDormand until this season I resent Frances getting the sophomore nod but now she’s prime to win and I’m hoping rival nominees prevail as long as they’re not Streep.

I can see where you are coming from. Mcdormand and Bates sort of occupy that similar space of accomplished character actresses whom we assume will be one and done.

Your wishes would probably come true if Sony Picture Classics didn’t make one of the all-time giangundo awards season mistakes in buying and then shelving Glenn Closes’s The Wife till next year.

In a season where no one else has a narrative like Close to demand a win (and with Close having the type of reviews that could sweep the board), you just have to slap your forehead and wonder what on earth these jokers were thinking. Close could probably have coasted to a win.

Next year will bring a whole new set of different contenders with some that might have powerful narratives of their own, and the buzz Close had could easily lose impact. This season was the perfect storm for a Close win and SPC just torpedoed it. Close must be pissed.

This is why some actors and filmmakers put clauses in their contracts for certain films when it comes to distribution. If Close had agreed a clause that whomever bought the distribution rights would have to run an awards season campaign in the year the rights were purchased, it might be a different story. It’d limit the interested buyers, but if the quality is strong enough, as reviews suggest, it;d still attract a solid distributor.

Glenn Close Oscar-less is criminal. The same for Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Pfeiffer. Do you think Pfeiffer can still squeeze a nod in supporting for mother?

I think it’s pretty safe at this point to say that Pfeiffer isn’t getting in for mother! but if she keeps her momentum going after her Emmy nod and having multiple projects this year she could become an Oscar winner in the near future.

With everyone talking about the weakness of the category she would not be a weak nominee to me.

LMAO. What are you even talking about? Michelle is a shoe in for nom. This is a weak ass year for supporting.
