Like “The Tree of Life” – artistically very convincitng, plot-wise not so much. But it’s definitely a boring piece.

It took me 2 days to watch “Foxcatcher”. It’s terribly boring. What about “The King’s Speech”, “Life of Pi” (like seriously the boat scenes are so awfully boring), “Boyhood” (come on…2,5 of nothing), “Nebraska”, “American Hustle” or “Amour”?

Or other films such as “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” “A Serious Man” “Up in the Air” or BP-winner “The Hurt Locker”?

Like I do admit that most of these have important stories to tell. And I do acknowledge their values. But why are most of these films, and Oscar-films in general are boring and overlong?

I think the reason a lot of Oscar movies are boring is because they feel like checklists rather than actual films. Take for example Foxcatcher (which was a chore to sit through by the way). Biopic? Check. 2-hour plus running time? Check. Funnyman playing it straight while caked in makeup? Check. They focus more on what wins awards rather than making an awards worthy film if you catch my drift.

Or maybe some people just have terrible attention spans and horrible taste in movies? 😛

I just wrote what was possibly the longest comment I’ve ever posted – like ever – and it wasn’t submitted. I hate my life.

The boringness lets you know it’s an important film, Vincelette! We can’t nominate something fun like a comedy or an action film. That would be so uncivilized.

So basically about how much you hate me and how much you disagree, right? 🙂 Tongue out

I was kidding Vincelette. I do actually really like or love most of the ones you mentioned, LOL! The only one I didn’t like was ‘Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close’ (the only thing I liked about it was Bullock). *sips from glass with pinky raised*

Not all of them are boring(The Grand Budapest Hotel, American Hustle weren’t, in my opinion). Yet some of them simply seem to be made for awards, using the same old formula. I think that a movie being boring is very relative. I find almost 90% action/blockbuster movies boring while other people love them.

The Oscars are just as formulaic as (or more than) any award show, and whatever the critics / precursors say goes. They always have a “type” that reap those honors, so it’s not so much the movies but the type of people who vote.

Some can be very boring. Foxcatcher is a prime example from last year. But then, not every film will suit every person. Some would say that Whiplash was boring, and others, like myself, would label that blasphemous.

I ask the same question of Summer blockbuster movies.  And that’s because I find action movies and contemporary superhero movies to be painfully boring.

Moral of the story: To each, his own.

Tho everyone above is correct about Foxcatcher.  zzzZZZzzZzzzZZZZ
