Yes, the last one in the franchise, “On Stranger Tides,” made a ton of money back in 2011. Since then, Johnny Depp has had a string of flops (“Dark Shadows,” “The Lone Ranger,” “Mortdecai”). This fall, he could be back in the Oscar race with “Black Mass.”
Does the actor really want to signal to voters that he is not to be taken seriously? Remember, he already has the “Alice in Wonderland” sequel coming out next year.
