Hi, everybody. Here we have is yet another of my threads asking the same question about different people: Will he/she have what it takes to be an Oscar nominee? See? I told you I would post more of these, and did not just post the other topics just because I’m die-hard fans of those actors. XD
Today, I want to talk about an actress named Mackenzie Davis. 24 hours ago, I had no idea who she was. That all changed when I attended the Miami International Film Festival and saw a screening of Tully, directed by Jason Reitman and starring Charlize Theron.
While the film itself doesn’t seem to be as good as Reitman’s previous works (I had some problems with the third act), there was one thing that absolutely stood out: Mackenzie Davis, playing a babysitter who helps Theron’s character overcome the stresses of motherhood. Had the film been up to par with Reitman’s previous works, I almost certainly would have been predicting that Davis would be a serious contender for Best Supporting Actress at next year’s Oscars.
Although Tully more than likely will snubbed by the Academy next year, I believe Ms. Davis has a very bright future. To me, she comes off as someone who could easily be mistaken for the elder, sweeter sister of either Brie Larson or Jennifer Lawrence. I predict that at first, she will focus on doing little projects while riding on Larson and Lawrence’s coattails. But over time her projects and roles will get bigger and bigger, and eventually she will have her own smash hit that will propel her to a nomination.
What do you think?
I feel like Gugu Mbartha-Raw is doing better career-wise.
She’s going to be a big deal. She reminds me of Elisabeth Moss, actually. I’m fairly confident Davis will become quite an artist.
