The James Bond film “Skyfall” did better at the Oscars than any other James Bond movie… Five nominations with two wins (song, sound editing).

With the trailer now released for “Spectre,” how do you think that film will do at the Oscars? Sam Mendes returns to direct. No word yet on a songwriter/performer.

Unless the film is undeniably better than Skyfall, I don’t think so. Oscars seem to have a sort of “been there, done that” attitude with sequels (and yes, most will see this as a sequel to Skyfall, and I’m not sure it isn’t).

I expect maybe a couple tech noms. But, maybe, if it’s REALLY good, we could see a BP nom. Skyfall came pretty close.

Javier Bardem received SAG , Critics choice and Bafta nominations. Maybe Christoph Waltz gets the Academy one.

John Logan has knocked on Oscar’s door three times before. Then there’s Thomas Newman, with his 12 noms, one being for Skyfall.

A good sign at least. I’d be surprised if any actors received nominations, no matter how good they are. No Roger Deakins, but Hoytema is no slouch. Same for Lee Smith, Anna Pinnock, and Dennis Gassner.

There’s potential here, provided that Mendes doesnt screw things up.

I think now here comes the time where the second Oscar for Waltz starts to hurt. If he hasn’t won for Django Unchained, maybe; but after two almost consecutive wins, the Academy is gonna take it slow with him now and Spectre hardly will be his third ride.

I have to rewatch it (maybe I’ll do it tonight) but I don’t remember Skyfall being any bit of amazing as everybody claimed it was. I much prefered Casino Royale.

Spectre seems better, I love how gritty the overall aesthetics are and I hope to god Belucci is more than just the shady Bond Girl who’s dating the bad guy and eventually dies because we’ve been there and we’ve done that.

Same. To me Casino Royale beats Skyfall easily. And Spectre do seems better too!

And about Bond Girls, Vesper Lynd remains as the one to overcome. I mean, Eva Green.

Gritty overall aesthetics = James Blake for the theme song!

I too like ‘Casino Royale’ a little more, but I think both are pretty fantastic. Vesper Lynd is an amazing Bond girl, my personal fave, but I think Bardem from ‘Skyfall’ is a better villain than Mads Mikkelson (who was kind of wasted). And ‘Skyfall’ is also a gorgeous looking film- Deakins’ cinematography is superb.

I’m unsure and until I see the movie and here the main song I will remain that way. Although it does make my eyes roll that Christoph Waltz is playing the villain. Congratulations Waltz, you have reached the highest level of villain….a bond villain allow me to give you a little free career advice this should be the last one you play or you will become a one-note actor.

A few techs…Skyfall got as many as it did because it was James Bond’s take on The Dark Knight.
