Sometimes there are years when the oscars spread the love and give oscars to many different films, for example in 2005, King Kong, Memoirs of a Geisha, Crash, and Brokeback mountain each got 3 oscars.
And there are times when the oscars don’t spread the love and 1 or 2 films sweep the awards, for example, The English Patient received 9, Titanic received 11, Schindlers List received 7, and of course last year Hugo and the Artist each received 5.
What do you think will be the case this year?
Personally i think that they will spread the love this year to many different films.
Lincoln, Les Mis, Zero Dark Thirty, Life of Pi and possibly (depending on how well they show on nomination day) The Master and Django all have the potential to sweep the ceremony since all of them seem to boast technical brilliance (which is a shared characteristic of all of the films you listed above that swept).
However I agree that this year a repeat of 2005 may be in order, since it seems like each of the movies I listed above each has at least one category that they have “claimed” i.e. actor for Lincoln, supp. actress for Les Mis, supp. actor for Django (yes, I think the academy will choose to honor the film there, much like Inglourious Basterds), et al.
