OK, there are many instances of American actors doing British/Australian/French/etc accents and failing miserably. However, we don’t often hear about the flip side, the Brits (and others) who try to talk as flat and unaffected as possible and pass it off as an American accent, and fail miserably. Times when you can hear their native accent coming through (although some are a little better at Southern accents, but bad Southern accents get my scorn and possible a different thread haha. Look at my name, of course bad Southern ticks me off).

So, bad American accents? Any takers? I thought Kate Winslet’s accent in Titanic was too flat and Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl wavered a bit too much. Henry Cavill as Superman didn’t scream All-American either.

Others, or am I just being an ugly American 🙂

Tim Roth’s accent in Reservoir Dogs is distractingly bad. Definitely made the right call in Pulp Fiction in sticking with his normal accent, but was at least able to play with it in The Hateful Eight.

What I find most amusing are those who “lose” their particular accent part-way through their performance.

Cary Elwes ala Shadow of The Vampire is a prime example. Is he, Brit, then American, then back to whatever that was again?

Not the WORST, and I seemed to be the only one who thought so but the first that comes to mind for me is Sally Hawkins jn Blue Jasmine. She’s a great actress but she slipped out of the accent like every 4th word it was just very weird sounding, and didn’t help that Cate Blanchett accent was pretty solid.

Oh my god yes. It still baffles me how she got nominated for that annoying accent.

He doesn’t have a bad accent but Benedict Cumberbatch always seems odd when he starts to speak in an american accent. Like it just doesn’t fit his persona
