I really interested in see what everyone thinks of Joan Rivers as an Oscar Host. Sadly, Joan Rivers is no longer alive but was a very well known comedian. She pioneered women of Comedy and was the first woman of Late Night. My question is would Joan Rivers had made a Good Oscar Host? Or Great? Or Horrible?December 10, 2015 at 9:20 pm #202561
Not even a question, she would have been phenomenal. She basically did all the host jabs that they do in the monologue on Fashion Police so she would have been amazingDecember 10, 2015 at 9:23 pm #202562
I think she would have been amazing as well. Why did she not?December 10, 2015 at 9:47 pm #202563
She would have been amazing. It was always my dream to see her do it. At least we had her for the Red Carpet days and Fashion Police.

More suited for the Golden Globes.December 11, 2015 at 12:50 am #202565
She would have been brilliant, edgy, controversial, and the ratings would have been through the roof. However, most of the people in that audience, can no laugh at themselves, or each other, and a lot of Joan’s jokes would have played to a quiet house or offended them horribly. But one does wish she had been allowed to do it, just once.
Back in 1983, Joan hosted the Emmys with Eddie Murphy. Whoever put that together was a genius in my book. Both dropped cuss words and made almost raunchy innoendoes(sic – I’m sure) and switchboards at NBC lit up with angry viewers who were “offended.”
Back to the Oscars, one also wishes someone woudl wise up and make Bette Midler a host. She would be good, but twenty years ago or more, she would have skewered them but in a classier way than Joan would have. Classier meaning, slightly less edgy than Joan.December 11, 2015 at 4:07 am #202566

She was a real host and a good host at several points in her career, not just a comedian or some actor that suddenly somebody decided should host an awards show (Baldwin, Hathaway, Franco, Martin, McFarlane, Jackman and so on) so in that sense, she was covered. The humor part, she would’ve been perfect, she would’ve done a great job, she practically made joke after joke after joke during the preshows so she was ready.
But obviously her brand was not for the Oscars, I’m sure she was at the very bottom of that list, probably more for the Globes now that they have hosts, but by this time she was probably too old or not hip enough for them.
