The Oscars are in 12 hours! So excited.

Here’s a question to keep the discussion going until the very end. Would you rather have your favorite films and stars win… or would you rather get your predictions correct?

In other words, my favorite film of the year was “American Hustle,” however I’m banking on “12 Years a Slave” to win Best Picture. With either outcome I will be happy, but for vastly different reasons. I think I would rather have my favorite film win, losing out on the prediction point, but it’s a tough call.

    What do you all think?

I don’t care what wins best picture but I would love to see June Squib and Bruce Dern win in their catergories over my predictions.

What did you like so much about AH? Out of interest.

What a silly question. Of course I’d rather see my favorite win than get my predictions right. But I’m not an awards psycho.

American Hustle was by far the most FUN movie of the year, and doggonit, if you don’t go to the movies to have a bit of fun, what’s the point?

Ha, this reminds me of a question I saw recently, with someone asking whether I would choose to revive my favorite (cancelled) show or cancel my least favorite show.

I’d definitely have a favorite win. Right now, I think I’m placing 500 points on American Hustle winning Original Screenplay because it’s listed 2nd in the predictions center and I’ll get more points if that turns out correct. However, it would probably make my night if Her actually pulled off the win in that category instead.

To bring up another point, Marcus, were you one of the guys who was predicting Homeland to take the Emmy last year? If so, weren’t you so overjoyed to be proven wrong when Breaking Bad pulled off the win? I know I would’ve preferred to have been wrong in my Modern Family prediction for Comedy Series. A win by Louie or 30 Rock would’ve been a fantastic way to cap off the night.

Great memory about the Homeland/Breaking Bad comparison. Coming off the Creative Arts where I didn’t get anything correct, I decided to switch my Best Drama vote to Homeland hoping/praying that my bad prediction luck would continue and it would mean Homeland would lose. 🙂 And you’re right, I was overjoyed.

I’m much more passionate about TV than movies though, which is why when it comes to the Oscars specifically, I’d rather get all of my predictions correct than see my faves win.

Unless I’m beting real money on my predictions, of course I’d rather my favorites win.

Favourite win. I was very reluctant to do so, but I’m predicting The Great Beauty to win FL film. If I’m wrong, I’ll be overjoyed. Also, if Fassbender wins, Squibb wins, or McQueen wins, this will be a good night.

Depends on the category – for instance, my favourite Original Screenplay contender is Her, but because I’ve been back and forth between Her and American Hustle and finally settled on the latter in my predix, I’d just like to be right. Her will always have the WGA. Likewise in costume design I prefer American Hustle for the correlation between costume and character, but I’d rather just get points for my Gatsby prediction – and frankly I don’t care enough about this category to strongly root for a favourite.

However, when it comes to Best Actor I’d be overjoyed to see Ejiofor win, even though I gave up on him after he lost SAG (like most, I’m predicting McConaughey). It would be ironic if Ejiofor won as he was at the top of my list even before the film premiered, back when he was about no. 11 on the predictions centre, yet I’m no longer predicting him.

My favorites! I’m an emotional type of gal. Of course, some years I dont have any favorites. This time however my “top 24” came and went like some forgettable BP winners.

well, i suck at predictions because i usually go with the film i think should win instead of the ones i know are going to win. However, this year i am going with who i think will win but if they lose i will be soooo happy. for example, i choose Mcconaughey for best actor but last year i would have choose Dern, Dicaprio or Chiwetel. So, if Mcconaughey loses i will be so happy i wont even care about my predictions. specially since dallas buyers club is the only movie more overrated than american hustle.

Favorites – my predictions really will mean nothing 10 minutes after the telecast has ended

Funy how, it seems tacit that our favorites and what wins wont line up.
