Let’s just say that you finally get to the point in your career when you are nominated for an Oscar, and let’s say by some fate of life you actually win the dang thing. Who would you thank? what would you say? Here is your chance… Write your dream Oscar Speech.
Of course this is just for fun. So go wild, say whatever you want, what category are you winning?
Here is mine:
“Wow, I am so shocked. First off all, Thank You to the Academy, This honor means so much to me. I am honored to be in such exceptional company as my fellow nominees. I am most proud to be able to accept this award for Outstanding Original Screenplay. I am so grateful to my fellow nominees, each and every one of you inspired me in some way to become a writer. Growing up as a young, gay, special needs student I was always being told I would never make it and that I couldn’t accomplish anything. I needed an escape and films were that for me; they became my world.
I must acknowledge my agents; CAA for their effortless work and determination to get me this film. My lawyers and managers for always encouraging me to push my boundaries and challenge myself. I must thank my studio, 20th Century Fox for their vision and talent in marketing this movie. Who would have thought a film about such dark and strange subject matter could become a massive hit?
I know I have so many people to thank and I’m being told time is coming up, so I want to thank all the inspirational people who inspired me to become a writer, or who simply provided me the strength to survive my early years. Bette Midler, your message of self-acceptance was never lost on me; I thank you. Oprah Winfrey, your message of bettering yourself moves me to this day. Thank you to the late Nora Ephron for making such amazing films that made me happier than you’ll ever know. Thank you to Ryan Murphy, Dustin Lance Black, Harvey Fierstien and many others for paving the way for an openly gay man to live and work in this industry and to thrive.
Thank you to Harvey Weinstien, you’ve inspired all of us to reach new heights. Lastly, thank you to my parents for supporting me in every way; emotionally and finanically all those years when I was struggling. For accepting me as I am and for encouraging me to never change. Thank You.”February 23, 2013 at 12:26 pm #92255
I’d have a couple of ideas:
“I never understood why Woody Allen never showed up to these. This is pretty awesome. no, I do. Being placed in a category with these wonderful nominees is an incredibly humbling honor. These belongs to the actors, the nominees, the art, the audience.”
“Don’t give me these. I can’t except this while people like PTA, George Lucas, or David Lynch have never won.”
“First of all, I’d like to thank the Academy, not only for this incredible and humbling honor, but for awarding my fellow nominees and peers and recognizing their fanastic work. To those who weren’t nominated. To my family that never got tired of me and put up with me, as well as letting me watch The Exorcist when I was 9. For the first time in my life, I feel welcome and like I finally belong. Thank you.”February 25, 2013 at 12:44 pm #92256
I always figured that If I won a big award like an Oscar, I’d be very overwhelmed and pull a Halle Berry and just keep talking… Remember when she said “I gotta take this 75 years here, 75 years!!!”… I’d do something like that.
