Looking at this year’s supporting actress contenders, it’s looking at this early point like the same 5 women (Arquette/Chastain/Knightley/Stone/Streep) are going to be nominated at every major precursor (critics choice, Globe, SAG, BAFTA) with little wiggle room for others to get in.

So my question is: has it ever happened before that the same group of contenders got nominated at every precursor to the point where everybody knew what the final lineup would be on Oscar nomination morning without a doubt?

The only other example I can find is Best Actress 2006, where it was Cruz/Dench/Mirren/Streep/Winslet through and through.

Not everyone is eligible for EVERY precursor, I imagine, plus Golden Globes divide the nominees in two groups.

Not EVERY precursor, but all five Oscar Supporting Actor nominess in 2009 (Damon/Harrelson/Plummer/Tucci/Waltz) got nominated for GG and SAG. Only Tucci and Waltz were nominated for BAFTA while Plummer was the only one who didn’t make BFCA line-up.

They don’t divide the supporting categories.

I doubt it. For years it seemed like the SAG awards would predict 4 out of 5 of the Oscar nominees.

If Miyavi or Gleeson are superb in Unbroken, then I could see the Supporting Actor race being close to a sweep across pre-cursors. Even if they aren’t, it seems likely that 4 (Simmons, Ruffalo, Norton, Hawke) will all be nominated for the aformentioned ceremonies.

Same with Leading Actress, four seem to be a strong bet across most award bodies (Moore, Pike, Jones, Witherspoon).

For Supporting Actress, Dern could break in to SAG or GG I think. Maybe Knightley will be edged out there.

There is next to no chance that any two of the major precursors will agree on the same 5 Leading Actor nominees.
