Along with top ten lists for the year, I started making top ten performances lists… but then I realized ten was way too few, so I just list like thirty performances I thought were fantastic.
Format them however you want, but I’m going to do male, female, supporting, lead, overrated, and underrated.
I still haven’t seen The Revenant, The Hateful Eight, The Big Short, 45 Years, or Son of Saul, so I will probably be editing this for a while.
(BTW, I use the Oscars for supporting and lead placements, not what I think)

    Male Lead
    1. Michael Fassbender – Steve Jobs
    2. Bryan Cranston – Trumbo
    3. Eddie Redmayne – The Danish Girl
    4. Johnny Depp – Black Mass
    5. Matt Damon – The Martian
    6. Abraham Attah – Beasts of No Nation
    7. Ian McKellan – Mr. Holmes
    8. Michael B. Jordan – Creed

    Female Lead
    1. Brie Larson – Room
    2. Cate Blanchett – Carol
    3. Charlize Theron – Mad Max: Fury Road
    4. Saorise Ronan – Brookyln
    5. Jennifer Lawrence – Joy (didn’t like the film at all, but her performance was great)
    6. Emily Blunt – Sicario
    7. Daisy Ridley – Star Wars: The Force Awakens
    8. Amy Poehler – Inside Out (okay, okay, I know. But I still haven’t seen 45 Years, Lady in the Van, Grandma, Suffragette, Freeheld, I Smile Back, Woman in Gold… so why not honor some of the best voice acting I’ve ever heard?)

    Male Supporting
    1. Jacob Tremblay – Room
    2. Idris Elba – Beasts of No Nation
    3. Paul Dano – Love & Mercy
    4. Mark Ruffalo – Spotlight
    5. Sylvester Stallone – Creed
    6. Mark Rylance – Bridge of Spies
    7. Michael Keaton – Spotlight
    8. Jason Segel – The End of the Tour

    Female Supporting
    1. Alicia Vikander – The Danish Girl
    2. Rooney Mara – Carol
    3. Kate Winslet – Steve Jobs
    4. Rachel McAdams – Spotlight
    5. Joan Allen – Room
    6. Alicia Vikander – Ex Machina
    7. Elizabeth Banks – Love & Mercy
    8. Helen Mirren – Trumbo (basically a filler spot)

    Overrated
    1. Benicio Del Toro – Sicario
    2. Michael Caine – Youth
    3. Emory Cohen – Brooklyn
    4. Amy Schumer – Trainwreck
    5. Harvey Keitel – Youth
    6. Robert De Niro – Joy
    7. Diane Ladd – Joy
    8. Julie Walters – Brooklyn
(I liked Brooklyn a lot, but most of the performances were just… there. I hated Joy, Youth, and most of both’s performances, though.)

    Underrated
    1. Jason Segel – The End of the Tour
    2. Abraham Attah – Beasts of No Nation
    3. Adam Driver – Star Wars: The Force Awakens
    4. Kyle Chandler – Carol
    5. Jeff Daniels – Steve Jobs
    6. Domhnall Gleeson – Star Wars, Brooklyn, Ex Machina, probably The Revenant when I see it
    7. Louis C.K. – Trumbo
    8. Liev Schreiber – Spotlight

I have to wait to see a couple other films before making my official list, but so far Sarah Silverman in I Smile Back is my favorite performance of the year.

How do you know that Rooney Mara is going to be nominated in supporting at the Oscars?

Maybe I should rephrase that, but I meant that I go by the prediction center’s placement and what most of the campaigning has been done in.

My favorite male lead actor performance was DiCaprio he was outstanding. Actress would be either Theron or Larson both captivated me more than other lead actress peformance this year. My personal choice for supporting actor since I saw it is Paul Dano for Love And Mercy even though I consider him Co lead. Supporting actress I would give it to Winslet or Vikander for Ex Machina. I consider Vikander lead in The Danish Girl
