Inspired by the ongoing discussion in the Fassbender/Cotillard Macbeth thread…
If you could cast an actor and an actress as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, respectively, for a film adaptation, who would they be? Feel free to throw in a director choice if you will.
Mine would be Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright directed by David Fincher (you can probably where I got this from).April 19, 2014 at 10:50 pm #151779
I would love to see Spacey and Wright as the Macbeths…though I think they already are the Macbeths on House of Cards!
I love the pairing of Fassbender and Cotillardnand I’m very much looking forward to this film wether it’s a success or not.April 19, 2014 at 10:55 pm #151780
Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes with Cronenberg directing.April 19, 2014 at 11:24 pm #151781
Well, as you can tell by my username, I pretty much adore this play
I’d have to say for Macbeth, we need someone who can appear both gullible and vicious. The mentions of Kevin Spacey and Ralph Fiennes are good, but unfortunately they just seem too evil in this part, and I can’t see Kevin Spacey doing the role great justice because it would be too similar to House of Cards. Because of this, I’m going to say Hugh Laurie or Gary Oldman for Macbeth
For Lady Macbeth, it just has to be Tilda Swinton. No one commands the screen like Tilda Swinton, and she can play purest evil. Having her against someone like Fiennes or Spacey would be interesting, but having her against a more sensitive performance of Macbeth would make her seem even more evil, which is what she is essentially.April 19, 2014 at 11:33 pm #151782
Swinton and Oldman would be great.
My previous two pairings were Fiennes + Blanchett, and Hardy + Chastain (or switch them up). I think Judy Davis or Samantha Morton would make a good Lady Macbeth too. Bertolucci, or Herzog as director.April 20, 2014 at 10:20 am #151783
Jude law and Kate winslet OR Kevin spacey and Tilda Swinton.April 20, 2014 at 11:01 am #151784
People are gonna judge me but I would LOVE to see Bellamy Young get a juicy movie role and I think Lady Macbeth woult be perfect for her. I’d love to see her try itApril 20, 2014 at 11:16 am #151785

Lol. Love your unique suggestion.
People are going to “judge me” too by this post (again)
Age-appropriate Fanboy choices:
Lady Macbeth: Sally Hawkins, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Sandra Bullock
I wouldnt recast Fassbender, although I’m not looking forward to seeing a mixture of Jane Ayre and Shame from him.
ETA: If Cotillard plays her the way Shakespeare intended, and with her innate skill, she is going to rock,April 20, 2014 at 10:40 pm #151786
Oh! Yes to Sally Hawkins!April 21, 2014 at 11:39 am #151787
Lol! I’m glad this makes you happy. Imagine what Hawkins could do with this role, and with Blanchett endorsing her……April 21, 2014 at 12:38 pm #151788
I think this thread should belong to “Lists”.April 21, 2014 at 12:41 pm #151789
Love the Tilda Swinton idea. I would also love to see Vera Farmiga’s take. She can bring the dangerous sexual intensity.April 21, 2014 at 11:32 pm #151790

Tilda could win an Oscar if she were the Lady M. Or, she could be so damned good that she’ll be overlooked again, ala We Need to Talk About Kevin,
And for an out there choice, I wonder how Catherine Zeta-Jones would fair. I think Anne-Marie Duff could nail this, and Rachel Weisz, can play anyone, and better than most.April 22, 2014 at 2:34 am #151791
Lol. She’s gotta tone down the great.. be just good enough, or miss out again.
Swinton could win another Oscar (lead) if she signed up for a Bowie biopic.
