Mine is Martin Scorsese in Taxi Driver. That scene inside the taxi is legendary and gold. What is your favorite director cameo in a film?

Quentin Tarantino’s funny monologue/rant  in the 1994 romantic comedy “Sleep with Me”. Tarantino in a five minute cameo during a dinner party explains to some of the guest that the film “Top Gun” really was a gay story between Maverick and Iceman.

Brad Bird as Edna “E” Mode. Does that count? I think it should.

I’m not a huge fan of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, but the sight of Gus Van Sant counting all of his money on the set of Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season never fails to make me smile.

There’s also Steven Spielberg’s small part as the office clerk at the end of The Blues Brothers.

I think it counts and would also like to make this my vote.

Not necessarily in their own films but:

Sydney Pollack in Tootsie, Michael Clayton,(and Anthony Minghella) etc.

David Cronenberg in To Die For…etc

    James Cameron, Titanic

Wes Craven in many of his films

ditto Spike Lee and Peter Jackson

    Martin Scorsese and Orson Welles

    Edgar Wright

    So many great ones . . .

Martin Scorsese in Taxi Driver is a must.

Alfred Hitchcock in too many to count, though the weight loss ad in the newspaper in Lifeboat was especially clever.

Woody Allen interviewed as himself discussing the guitarist Emmet Ray in Sweet and Lowdown

Roman Polanski as the thug harming Jake Gittes in Chinatown.

David Lean in Lawrence of Arabia yelling at Peter O’Toole, “Who are you?”

And probably my favorite (at least today, anyway)

Francis Ford Coppola as the TV director shouting, “Don’t look at the camera” in Apocalypse Now.

I got a kick of out David Fincher’s cameo in Being John Malkovich.
