I have yet to see “Amour”, “Compliance”, “The Deep Blue Sea” or “Rust and Bone” but as of now my top ten performances of the year would be…

    1) Joaquin Phoenix- “The Master”
    2) Daniel Day Lewis- “Lincoln”
    3) Jason Clarke- “Zero Dark Thirty”
    4) Tommy Lee Jones- “Lincoln”
    5) Helen Hunt- “The Sessions”
    6) Philip Seymour Hoffman- “The Master”
    7) Christoph Waltz- “Django Unchained”
    8) Ezra Miller- “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”
    9) Bradley Cooper- “Silver Linings Playbook”
    10) Quvnenshane Wallis- “Beasts of the Southern Wild”

So without having seen “Amour”, etc. my list ends up being dominated by men at this point.

Floating around the bottom of this list would be (in no particular order):
    Leonardo DiCaprio- “Django Unchained”
    Sally Field- “Lincoln”
    Jennifer Lawrence- “Silver Linings Playbook”
Mikkel Boe Folsgaard- “A Royal Affair”
    John Hawkes- “The Sessions”
    Kacey Mottet Klein- “Sister”
Denis Levant- “Holy Motors” (Yes, I will admit he was excellent, especially as a troll, but goddamn I hated that ridiculous film.)

Hate, hate, hate ranking performances necause they’re really unique on their own. It’s all subjective, people. That said, it would be nice to get a lil tally going for the number of mentions.

I based mine on the performances that stuck in my mind the most this year. One is not “better” than the other.

    1) Joaquin Phoenix – The Master
    2) Christoph Waltz – Django Unchained
    3) Daniel Day-Lewis – Lincoln
    4) Jack Black – Bernie
    5) Jennifer Lawrence – Silver Linings Playbook

So true. There is no way to quantify what is “better”. So i too ranked mine by what performances stayed with me and affected me the most.
