We are now officially half way through the year.

So, if you had to cast your votes now, based on the films you have seen, what would make your nominations ballot? And who would be your winners?

Do as many or as few categories as you like.

    I found the following Oscar-worthy…

My Name Is Doris in Lead Actress
The Nice Guys in Original Screenplay
    The Witch in Cinematography

Haven’t seen enough films to make a proper ballot at this point, but here’s some I’d consider from what I have seen. Not saying that every one of these is necessarily Oscar-worthy, but I’d at least consider them in these categories at this point in the year. Bold for any that I think are likely to still be in contention for me by the end of the year.

Captain America: Civil War – Editing, Visual Effects, Sound categories

Deadpool – Actor (Ryan Reynolds), Visual Effects, Makeup

Hail, Caesar! – Picture, Actor (Josh Brolin), Supporting Actor (Alden Ehrenreich), Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Costume Design, Original Song (“No Dames”), Production Design

Midnight Special – Actor (Michael Shannon), Supporting Actor (Joel Edgerton), Visual Effects

10 Cloverfield Lane – Actress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Supporting Actor (John Goodman), Adapted(?) Screenplay

The Witch – Pretty much everything it’s eligible for, but emphasis on Director, Cinematography, Score, and Sound

Zootopia – Picture, Original Screenplay, Animated Feature, Original Score

Not the most amazing year so far, but we’ll see if that changes with the big number of goodies coming this fall.

    ZOOTOPIA: (8)
Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Animated Feature, Production Design, Sound Mixing, Original Score, Original Song (“Try Everything”)

    EYE IN THE SKY: (7)
Picture, Director, Actress (Mirren), Supporting Actor (Rickman), Original Screenplay, Editing, Original Score

    THE JUNGLE BOOK: (6)
Director, Cinematography, Production Design, Visual Effects, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing

    FINDING DORY: (6)
Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Animated Feature, Sound Editing, Original Score

    THE LOBSTER: (4)
Actor (Farrell), Supporting Actress (Weisz), Original Screenplay, Editing

    DEADPOOL: (3)
Adapted Screenplay, Visual Effects, Sound Editing

I really like the idea of Zootopia receiving the praise it deserves at the Academy Awards. In my opinion, it’s the best film of the year so far. I am praying it makes it into the Best Picture race!

I think a few of the 2016 films that I’ve seen are closer to Razzie-worthy than Oscar-worthy, but…

Zootopia: Best Picture, Original Screenplay, Animated Picture, Production Design, Sound Mixing, Score, Song (“Try Everything”)

Eye In The Sky: Lead Actress (Helen Mirren), Supporting Actor (Alan Rickman), Original Screenplay, Sound Editing

The Jungle Book: Best Picture, Director, Cinematography, Production Design, Sound Editing, Visual Effects, Editing, Adapted Screenplay

The Fundamentals of Caring: Lead Actor (Paul Rudd), Supporting Actor (Craig Roberts), Supporting Actress (Selena Gomez), Original Screenplay

The Man Who Knew Infinity: Lead Actor (Dev Patel), Supporting Actor (Jeremy Irons), Adapted Screenplay

Maybe some filler noms for A Hologram For A King, Race, and The Finest Hours just because I haven’t seen anything else worth mentioning.

And because I’ve heard songs from films I haven’t seen:
    Best Original Song
    “Try Everything” (Zootopia)
    “Can’t Stop the Feeling” (Trolls)
“Wish That You Were Here” (Peculiar Children)
    “Something Wild” (Pete’s Dragon)
“Dance Rascal Dance” (Hello, My Name is Doris)
