Let it be known that this was posted before the reviews for Selma came out. I’ve had Selma at my #1 spot for Picture, Director, and Actor for a month and a half now and now my predictions are finally coming true. I’m the best at Oscars.

The things I’m right about that Gold Derby’s concensus is not

    1) The Theory of Everything is NOT getting nominated for Best Picture
    2) Carmen Ejogo is a HUGE contender in Supporting Actress for Selma, yet no experts have her on
    3) Selma is a huge contender in many categories, Oyelowo could win, the film itself could win
    4) Mr. Turner is a bigger contender than you think it is
    5) Birdman not getting nominated for Art Direction, it was filmed mostly on an existing set
    6) American Sniper was written by the guy who wrote Paranoia, so you know, there is plenty of reason to doubt it.
    7) Bradley Cooper isn’t getting nominated even if the movie is good
    8) Foxcatcher might get snubbed for Original Screenplay and Best Picture in the tradition of Inside Llewyn Davis and The Master
    9) Jessica Chastain is NOT getting nominated for Interstellar OR Eleanor Rigby, it’s A Most Violent Year or nothing. No actors from Interstellar are getting nominated
    10) Nolan isn’t getting on for Director or Screenplay for Interstellar.
    11) Grand Budapest Hotel is not getting nominated for Best Picture or Best Screenplay and no way in hell is Fiennes getting nominated
    12) Into The Woods not getting Picture nomination
    13) Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper, and Johnny Depp have no better chance of being nominated at the Golden Globes. Their celebrity effect is overrated. #OprahSnub2014 #DivingBellWonDirector #AllisLostWonScore
    14) The Imitation Game is not winning. I don’t care that it won Toronto, there was no competition there.

Just needed to post this because many of these are true and the experts are often very wrong on this website and I am better than many of them. I know this is a cocky post but that’s how fierce I become about Oscars and because I’m right and no one knows YET

Well, this is certainly an auspicious way to make your presence on GoldDerby known.

And since when is anybody still predicting Chastain for The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby?

She used to be higher up as a contender but they started taking her off. I knew it wouldn’t last.

lmao I already love you and you’re right on about half of these, but let me say what you are wrong about.

    1) have you seen how week the field is? there is no way it gets best actor and actress noms and misses picture, sorry

    2) nope. there were reports from screenings and they all say the same thing: she is in the film very little and does virtually nothing

    3) nope. again, reports from screenings ALL said he is kind of just decent in the role. it wasn’t like it was a devisive performance, all of them agreed on it

    7) yes he is because he is the only contender who is a previous nominee and this category hasn’t had an all-first-timers lineup in 80 years

1: Decent argument, but again, technically the nominations in those categories have nothing to do with the overall quality of the film. I also saw the movie and it wasn’t that great, Redmayne was fantastic. 75% RottenTomatoes isn’t that good.
2&3: WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT INFORMATION ABOUT SELMA??? I’m pretty sure the film is still in post-production so I kind of doubt that’s true, the only footage screened has been 5 minutes where great things were said. I would very much like links if you have them.
7: It’s going to happen this year. They wouldn’t nominate him just to get a veteran nominee.

Just found this upon looking up Selma reactions. Guy said he was the only one in the theater who thought it was just good, so that says something to me.

Welcome to goldderby. We’re all wrong about something. Nobody has ever been 100% correct.

But the point of this is that I’m right about more things than other people

Well, a feather in your cap. Spend the $1,000 wisely.

Thing about that is that by the time the nominations are around the corner people’s ballets will look more like mine so I might not be getting 1,000 dollars. If the predictions were locked in right now it might be a different story

One thing about this post is that, while it seems quite abrasive based on the title and the format, most of the points aren’t absolutes as much as discussion points.

You aren’t saying that Ejogo is getting nominated, just that we’re underestimating her. Same thing for 3,4,6, and 8. On the other side, 1,5,10 and 12 are absolutions that aren’t really revolutionary. Most people agree there at this point.
I also don’t think you can say anything about American Sniper until anybody has seen it. It could be horrible, it could be the greatest thing ever. But the word COULD is very important.
9,13 and 14 are ones I agree with, and again, not going against the consensus, so that’s fine.
Then 11 is the only one that is really a longshot pick that you seem sure about. And I honestly highly doubt that Grand Budapest won’t at least get in for Screenplay. That would be the biggest snub of the year in my view.

Well, those sites were apparently wrong. Selma is being pimped right now.
