Similar to the 1990 Grammys thread, who do you think came in second place in the following general field categories. The winners are in bold.

    Album of the Year
    George Michael-Faith
    Tracy Chapman-Tracy Chapman
    Bobby McFerrin-Simple Pleasures
    Sting-Nothing Like the Sun
    Steve Winwood-Roll With It

    Record of the Year
    Bobby McFerrin-Don’t Worry Be Happy
Anita Baker-Giving You the Best That I Got
    Tracy Chapman-Fast Car
    Michael Jackson-Man in the Mirror
    Steve Winwood-Roll With It

    Song of the Year
    Bobby McFerrin-Don’t Worry Be Happy
Anita Baker-Giving You the Best That I Got
    Tracy Chapman-Fast Car
    Brenda Russell-Piano in the Dark
    Sting-Be Still My Beating Heart

    Best New Artist
    Tracy Chapman
    Rick Astley
    Toni Childs
    Take 6
    Vanessa Williams

    Here is my Take

Album of the Year: Sting, he was previously nominated for his first solo album in 1985 and did win a general field Grammy (SOTY) for “Every Breath You Take” as a part of The Police

Record of the Year: Steve Winwood, he did win in this category for “Higher Love” a couple years back and was most likely a frontrunner after McFerrin

Song of the Year: Tracy Chapman, as I mentioned in the 1990 Grammy thread, they often like award young, upcoming songwriters, in addition to her being nominated for all four general field nominations and SOTY has often nominated and awarded songs that are left field

Best New Artist: Vanessa Williams, in any other year, she most likely would have won, however the competition was stiff with Chapman as a favorite
