ARTPOP is not seeing anything, at least not in the general categories. It does not have the commercial success to back it up.

My (very early) predictions for certain songs/albums:

    MMLP2: Best Rap Album
    The Monster; Best Rap/Sung Collab

Reflektor – Arcade Fire- Best Alt. Music Album
New – Paul McCartney- Best Rock Album

Beyonce – Best Urban Contemporary Album

Prism – Best Pop Vocal Album

Do What U Want – Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

Yeah, because “The Blessed Unrest” was a HUGE commercial hit.

Prism shouldn’t get any nomination next year but Dark Horse. It is crap. I’d give a chance to Dark Horse for Best Pop Group/Duo. Rest of the album doesn’t deserve any nomination including Best Pop Vocal Album. I don’t know where Teenage Dream’s Katy Perry is, but Prism thing is not even close being “good.”

The eligibility period has just started. It’s too early to talk about the nominations.

Actually the period is almost 1/4 over and since its the last quarter of the year many of the big names who will be on the short list by default have released albums. I was just thinking the other day about this. Considering January releases are pretty non-existant and there will probably be only a couple worthy contenders through the end of March it’s definitely not too early even though this year’s ceremony has yet to air.

A Great Big World will dominate next year. BNA, ROTY, SOTY and probably AOTY. Not to mention Pop Group and Pop Album.

Even Adele can’t possibly pull off back to back AOTY wins…

Maybe Kanye returns to GF? Maybe Frank Ocean’s album blows everyone away again? Maybe rumors of an ABBA comeback album are true? Maybe Foo Fighters win AOTY? There’s a lot that could happen.

Pop Duo/Group is starting to shape up, we have DWUW, Say Something, Dark Horse…

I see Eminem as a frontrunner, he has been nominated 3 times for AOTY and this album has got his best reviews since The  Eminem Show.

Eminem and Beyonce will most likely get nominations. A Great Big World seems like chances are good, but there’s a lot of time left for things to be discovered, too. I don’t know about Prism or Artpop. Roar got a nomination this year, so Katy Perry’s chances are a little better, but they could’ve just liked the song. Lady Gaga has had 3 AOTY nods (The Fame, The Fame Monster, and Born This Way), but does Artpop compare to those? No nods for Applause. We’ll see. If she does get nods, I doubt they’ll be in the GF. Is Adele seriously close to releasing a new album? I thought I heard somewhere that she was going to take some time. But if she does release one, then she’ll be in. Lorde will probably get a BNA nod next year.

Why would an ABBA comeback album mean anything for the Grammys? They have never even been nominated for a Grammy, let alone won. And if it does happen, they’ll never recapture the fame they had in the 70s.

Led Zeppelin never got nominated in the 70’s, but that didn’t stop Robert Plant from winning and won’t stop them from winning Rock Album this year. ABBA has massively grown in popularity over the past few years after Mamma Mia, and are considered one of the most influential pop groups of the past century (a reputation they did not have when they were around). I’m not saying it’s a sure thing (the album even existing isn’t), but if it sells well and has good reviews, they squeak a few nods.

Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin are two different things. Robert had Alison Krauss who has won more Grammys then any other singer. You can’t compare them. I’m not saying Abba isn’t getting nominated but if they never did in their hay day i wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t now.
