Coldplay is slated to perform the 50th annual Superbowl Halftime Show on February 7, 2016.

Their (supposedly) final album, A Head Full of Dreams, is out tomorrow.

So in between watching rapists and wife beaters smack each other brainless, we get the musical equivalent of a quaalude? Who plans this shit?

I love Coldplay, their music might be too sad for a superbowl halftime show but this might be their last album and era, they deserve this moment. Good for them. I can see Rihanna being a special guest and both of them singing their duet song “Princess of China”

Lve Coldplay so I’m all for this! Saying that, I am hoping that they have Viva La Vida in there.

I guess Taylor declined, because that’s the only way to describe not having the music success story, pre Adele, not do this. Blah choice, but “Viva La Vida” was made for a showcase like the halftime show.

The more I think about it, Coldplay makes sense given all the middle-aged people that tune in for the Superbowl.. Coldplay’s been around for 15 years or so and has a surprising number of hits to entertain a crowd. I don’t think they’re the best choice, but given their new album (out today) is bright and happy compared to 2014’s Ghost Stories, I’m sure they’ll impress. It’s not like Chris Martin is going to get up on the stage and cry in front of millions of people.

Plus the new album features Beyonce on a song, so I’m sure she’ll appear. Maybe Rihanna too. Don’t forget, Coldplay has many many A-list friends.

    Dull and uninspired choice.

Taylor has a contract with Coke and the halftime show is sponsored by Pepsi

Beyonce will join Coldplay for their Super Bowl performance I guess they didn’t want it to be a surprise so that more people would watch? I don’t know why they would announce a guest performer weeks before.

Damn, I finally have a reason to watch the Superbowl. Coldplay is a perfect choice and a fantastic band, and now is as good a time as ever for them to do something like this (maybe around 2008 would have been prime, but since this is their “last” album, I’m glad they’re going out with a bang).
