Who do you guys think are the biggest contenders in each category? It’s so hard to think of where people will submit. Florence could go Alternative, Rock or Pop for instance.
Fall Out Boy could go Rock or Pop.
CHVRCHES could go Pop, Alternative or even Dance.

    Some contenders on my mind:
    Currents, Tame Impala (Alt)
How Big How Blue How Beautiful, Florence and the Machine (Alt, Pop, or Rock)
Sound & Color, Alabama Shakes (Alt or Rock)
Every Open Eye, CHVRCHES (Alt, Pop, or Dance)
Carrie & Lowell, Sufjan Stevens (Alt or Folk)
    Sonic Highways, Foo Foghters (Rock)
1989, Ryan Adams (Alt or Rock)
Love Stuff, Elle King (Alt, Blues or Rock)
Honeymoon, Lana Del Rey (Alt or Pop)
    Dreams (single) – Beck (Rock)
    Vulnicura – Bjork (Alt)
What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World – The Decembrists (Alt, Rock or Folk)
Strangers to Ourselves – Modest Mouse (Alt)
Kintsugi – Death Cab For Cutie (Alt)
What Went Down – Foals (Alt or Rock)
Chaos and the Calm – James Bay (Alt or Folk)
Wilder Mind – Mumford and Sons (Alt, Pop or Rock)
Drones – Muse (Alt or Rock)
Music Complete – New Order (Alt, Pop, Rock, or Dance)
American Beauty/American Psycho – Fall Out Boy (Rock or Pop)
Another Eternity – Purity Ring (Alt, Dance)
Talking is Hard – Walk The Moon (Alt, Pop, or Rock)
    Policy – Will Butler (Alt)
    In Colour – Jamie xx
    My predictions:
    Alternative Album:
    Vulnicura – Bjork
How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful – Florence and the Machine
Strangers to Ourselves – Modest Mouse
    Every Open Eye – CHVRCHES
Currents – Tame Impala or In Colour – Jamie xx

     Rock Album:
    Love Stuff – Elle King
    Sonic Highways – Foo Fighters
Sound & Color – Alabama Shakes
    1989 – Ryan Adams
    Wilder Mind – U2

when was the last time that female artist was nominated for Rock Album? i’d rather see there Muse & AC/DC instead of Elle & Ryan…

^ Sheryl Crow was the last female solo artist nominated for Best Rock Album back in 2002 (losing to Springsteen’s The Rising).  Before 2002 though, it happened fairly commonly, with nominations for Crow, PJ Harvey, Melissa Etheridge, Bonnie Raitt, and Alanis Morissette all in the decade previous to that.

It’s much more common in Alternative Album (Neko Case, St. Vincent, Bjork, Lily Allen, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple).

Gonna have to wait for the submissions on this one. It’s always hard to know whether certain albums go to Alt or Rock.

Florence will be submitted in Pop, albums could go either rock or alternative. Last year, everyone was predicting Lazaretto for rock album, but somehow it was submitted in alternative album.
If there is justice in this world, the nominees should be and I think they will:

    Alternative Album:

    Vulnicura – Bjork
    Carrie & Lowell, Sufjan Stevens
    Currents, Tame Impala
Strangers to Ourselves – Modest Mouse
Kintsugi – Death Cab For Cutie

    Rock album (should be)
    What Went Down – Foals
Chaos and the Calm – James Bay
    Sound & Color, Alabama Shakes
    Love Stuff, Elle King
American Beauty/American Psycho – Fall Out Boy

    Rock album (will be):
American Beauty/American Psycho – Fall Out Boy
    Sonic Highways – Foo Fighters
Sound & Color – Alabama Shakes
    1989 – Ryan Adams
Wilder Mind – Mumford & Sons

I think Alabama Shakes will submitted their album in alternative then, sadly for Bjork, they will be frontrunners there, there is no way Alabama is beating Foo Fighters in rock, I can easily see Foo Fighters sweeping the whole rock field, but Alabama Shakes have the real jams.

I think that Alabama Shakes will be submitted to Rock, as it is there best chance and have been nominated before hand and could also see a win there even if Foo Fighters are nominated. They are veterans, however, they have lost twice for Rock Album, in 1997 for The Colour and the Shape (John Fogerty won) and in 2005 for In Your Honor (U2 won), so they could easily lose in this category again. Lastly, I would love to see Bjork win her first Grammy and could see her taking home Alternative Album.

Alabama Shakes will definitely be submitted (and nominated) in the Rock categories.

I expect My Morning Jacket (twice nominated in this category) and Death Cab for Cutie (4 times nominated in this category, one was for an EP!) to receive Alternative nominations. Tame Impala is also likely to receive a nomination for July’s Currents, as is Sufjan Stevens.
