The last thread was way too long.
Continue discussion here.September 7, 2016 at 5:59 pm #1201918640
How is this thread still running? Just the other day I read an editor say they close every thread with over 500 posts and open a new one. It’s time for a new one. This is so old the newest comment feature doesn’t even work.
While I think the Grammys are “over” rewarding veteran acts
Is Beck a veteran act?
You can argue that, yes.September 7, 2016 at 10:57 pm #1201918719

I think all the big pop album releases for this grammy period have been released already…
so this is my final prediction on
Best Pop Vocal Album:
1. Adele – 25
2. Justin Bieber – Purpose
3. Coldplay – A Head Full Of Dreams
4. Ariana Grande – Dangerous Woman
5. Selena Gomez – Revival
(if there are 6 nominees like 2 years ago then the last spot may be filled by Glory by Britney Spears)September 8, 2016 at 10:19 am #1201918861
BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM
ADELE – 25
Justin Bieber – Purpose
Coldplay – A Head Full of Dreams
Sia – This Is Acting
James Blake – The Colour in Anything
(alternates: 1) Ariana Grande 2) Selena Gomez )September 8, 2016 at 10:28 am #1201918869
Oh and I think Best New Artist is already done.
BEST NEW ARTIST
Chance the Rapper
for Urban Contemporary album. (3 people are already locks)
Beyoncé – Lemonade
Rihanna – Anti
Frank Ocean – Blond
the other 2 filler noms are still pending.September 8, 2016 at 10:52 am #1201918884
I would imagine The 1975 are ineligible because Chocolate was a big hit off their first album. I would not be surprised if 21P aren’t eligible either, but I see them making the list before the 1975. The Chainsmokers and Chance the Rapper sound like sure things, and I would genuinely be surprised if Alessia Cara is left off the list.September 8, 2016 at 12:04 pm #1201918918
I think BNA sure-bets are Chance the Rapper and The Chainsmokers. Perhaps 21 Pilots, since they’ve been around pretty much the entire eligibility period (why would they be ineligible?)
Alessia Cara, Daya or Halsey could get it but not more than 1 of them – they’re too similar. Leaning towards Alessia.
Not predicting The 1975 – old news.
A country artist?September 8, 2016 at 12:31 pm #1201918929
Best New Artist could be:
Bryson Tiller (I don’t know why people are sleeping on this potential nominee)
Twenty One Pilots
Chance The Rapper
A country artist?September 8, 2016 at 1:50 pm #1201918962
Maren Morris would probably be the country artist to get a Best New Artist nomination.September 8, 2016 at 1:57 pm #1201918966
Best New Artist is always such a cluster with eligibility –
Twenty One Pilots didn’t release an album during this year’s eligibility period, are they even eligible here? Blurryface came out last year and reached #1 then.
The Chainsmokers released their first album during this year’s eligibility so I would assume they are good to go. They had a single peak top 20 before this, though, so not sure if that’s enough to disqualify them.
Chance the Rapper seems eligible given his releases were streaming-only back when mixtapes didn’t qualify.
Chance the Rapper
Maren MorrisSeptember 8, 2016 at 1:59 pm #1201918969
Non-soundtrack albums that spent 10+ weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200.
Alanis Morissette – Jagged Little Pill (won AOTY)
Santana – Supernatural (won AOTY)
Backstreet Boys – Millenium (AOTY nom, lost to Santana)
Taylor Swift – Fearless (won AOTY)
Adele – 21 (won AOTY)
Taylor Swift – 1989 (won AOTY)
Adele – 25
Drake – Views
Given this track record, I feel pretty comfortable saying that Adele and Drake will both land AOTY nominations.
I’ll say Adele, Beyoncé, David Bowie, Drake, Radiohead.
Lots of possible vote splitting here; Bowie and Radiohead, Beyoncé and Drake, Adele and Beyoncé…
Bowie or Beyoncé should win, but I kinda feel like Adele will.September 8, 2016 at 2:13 pm #1201918980
But…it’s not until recently that they made up new rules.
Drake has only had 2 weeks in the sales T2.September 8, 2016 at 2:19 pm #1201918987
Halsey will not be nominated for BNA. What has she done other than “Closer”?September 8, 2016 at 3:29 pm #1201919067
People are really underestimating Lukas Graham in BNA. 7 Years was a huge hit and Mama Said is gain traction. Not to mention they got a VMA BNA nod.
My Predictions for BNA:
Twenty One Pilots (If they’re eligible)
