If a country album is winning, it better be a fucking powerful country star and Sturgill Simpson isn’t it. Neither is the album. It has to be more than that. I’m not saying it’s a random album or artist, but common.

They issue here is just Adele. Freaking huge, saving the music industry with her monster sales Adele and her old, boring album. Also it doesn’t hurt that she has a huge powerful single that people still associate with the album and it was as huge as 25 was, where Beyonce doesn’t have either of those things. Many voters might have still not listened to anything on Lemonade, they just know it exists, that it was huge and what people say about it, whereas everybody knows Hello, recognizes Send My Love and probably own 25. I feel that if Beyonce had released a runaway hit single, it would be easier. Once you listen to Lemonade, it’s amazing, but it’s not easy to get into it because it’s just not that huge pop album 25 is and these are POP people. And it doesn’t have single after single like Purpose or Views. To me, the same thing is true for “Beyonce” (the album) and losing to Beck.

We’ll all spend the next 2 months going back and forth while still predicting Beyonce until the very end with the typical *but I know she won’t win*, just like we did with Beck.

Bieber and Drake are joke nominations based purely on success, they make sense considering what’s been nominated here in recent years, but these people never way nor should they. They’re out, they’re happy to even get this far, specially Bieber. What an amazing team this boy has, even with all of his bullshit, they’re still managing to make this album work over and over again, and control him a little bit. Honestly, I love this nomination, his whole team deserves this recognition, that is one tough job they pulled.

    Should win: Lemonade
Will Win: Lemonade (of couse not, 25 will win).

I just think Beyoncé will win this. I don’t like “Lemonade” as much as “Beyoncé” but I think she had more of an impact on 2016 than Adele did.

The fact Justin Bieber is nominated makes my skin crawl.

I feel like Beyonce will win, even with her 15 + writers/producers…. Adele didn’t really keep the album “going” after “hello”. And Beyonce has never won AOTY before, so all the more reason they’ll vote for her.

Also worth noting Adele became the fourth woman after Barbra Streisand, Bonnie Raitt and Taylor Swift to be nominated for AotY after previously winning.

The most interesting fact is that Adele is the first artist since 2001 (Bob Dylan) to be nominated for AOTY after winning it for her previous album. Most artists fail at getting nominated.

Yeah, Bieber doesn’t have a chance in hell, and hip hop is not rewarded here so take Drake out too, especially when Beyonce is an option.

I can’t completely dismiss Sturgill. The Grammys have loved their WTF wins in this category lately and he fits the bill for a more rock/acoustic based win. I’d never predict it, but history tells us he has a chance, even if he doesn’t have the name recognition of past WTF winners.

My thought here is that “Hello” is such a slamdunk winner for ROTY that they will go for Beyonce here. But yeah, the appeal that Adele has across the board can’t be denied. And people who say “25” didn’t have enough lasting impact…”Send My Love” was a huge hit, and let’s not forget that “Water Under The Bridge” is hitting right when people are voting.

I think history plays a factor here too. Adele just won AOTY. Beyonce was seen as robbed last time. Do you award Adele again and deny Beyonce again? I’m not sure voters are willing to diss Beyonce again.

This is a very interesting race.

The Grammy’s and the media will make it all about Beyonce vs Adele. 25 has the sales, Lemonade has the cultural and political impact. Not to mention being the most talked about album this year. It divided the general public, won over the critics, and has been successful with Awards. 25 won over the general public, divided with critics, and nominated for the same type of Awards. The votes  be really close. I think Adele wins ROTY and maybe SOTY so that gives Beyonce AOTY. But with the competition, I wouldn’t say Formation doesn’t have a shot at SOTY. It’s not traditional but it was very discussed. I just feel like it’s Beyonce’s time. So I’m gonna say Lemonade by some very close votes.

Beyonce deserves it. Not the biggest fan ever but she really brought it with this album.

If Beyonce wins in the GF it will be here. I think Adele is still the favorite based on artists that typically have an easier time of winning in the GF, but with Beyonce it’s getting to be like, “if not now, then when?” sort of a vibe.

Why? If anyone doesn’t understand what he was trying to say, they need a psychiatrist.

Also, Bon Iver said something along those lines and still won BNA.

Much is being made of the “protest” vote. Everyone wanted the Grammys to be more hip, well, when Sturgill Simpson prevails here, as he should quite frankly, they will once again prove how “hip” they are by voting the best music on the least sold album in the category. Adele & Beyoncé will prevail elsewhere, as will Drake. Bieber. Really?

Sturgill Simpson will be next year’s Herbie Hancock.

I think Beck is a better comparison. Sturgill Simpson is a critical favorite, not a veteran.
