Sound & Color is nominated for Best Engineered Album. So, congrats Alabama Shakes.

This category is between Alabama Shakes and Kendrick Lamar.  Taylor Swift could pose a threat, but she feels like 3rd place.  Chris Stapleton and The Weeknd are in 4th and 5th place, respectively.

SHOULD WIN: Kendrick Lamar, To Pimp a Butterfly
WILL WIN: Alabama Shakes, Sound & Color

I wouldn’t underestimate Chris Stapleton since he has a lot of country backing, but I feel Kendrick Lamar will win this, especially with all of the year-end rankings. Alabama Shakes are in the race as well. They are nominated for Best Engineered Album and the rock voters will be on their tails.

Taylor Swift will end up like Beyoncé did last year.

SHOULD WIN: Kendrick Lamar, To Pimp a Butterfly
WILL WIN: Kendrick Lamar, To Pimp a Butterfly
SPOILER: Alabama Shakes, Sound & Color

It’s between “1989” and “To Pimp A Butterfly” anyone that thinks otherwise is fooling themselves. The critically acclaimed album that sold well vs the commercially successful that got great reviews.

Were I a member of the NARAS, I’d vote for Kendrick Lamar. I am a hardcore Taylor Swift fan, and 1989 would win in any other year. Just not this one, against Lamar. They fucked him up two years ago, so there’s your due factor. Plus, his album is the most innovative out of the five. 1989 was inventive enough and brought the best out of its synthpop roots, but Fearless winning in 2010 is not helping Swift to earn another AotY.

    1. To Pimp A Butterfly – Kendrick Lamar (urban/rap backing, due factor.)
    2. Sound & Color – Alabama Shakes (rock/technical backing)
    3. Traveller – Chris Stapleton (country/folk backing)
    4. 1989 – Taylor Swift (mainstream appeal.)
    5. Beauty Behind The Madness – The Weeknd (an unworthy nomination, if you ask me. He doesn’t stand a chance in this category, and he should not. Lana Del Rey’s Honeymoon, Miguel’s Wildheart or Sam Hunt’s Montevallo should’ve taken his spot.)

Kendrick will win. He will be the 3rd rap act (Lauryn Hill & Outkast) to ever win AOTY. TPAB is truly a masterpiece. I really hope the academy get it right.

Taylor is a non-factor. This is Kendrick vs Alabama Shakes.

Here, we were saying seven or eight nominations tops for Kendrick. The fact that he leads with 11 nominations means something.

And really? 1989? That’s a solid third place entry, if ever there was one. Alabama Shakes has a stronger chance than Taylor Swift does–and if you’re voting otherwise, you’re being silly.

I think it will be Alabama Shakes. They seem to be liked by so many different other acts of all genres, have been working for years and it’s paid off so much this past year, and have gotten some good critical acclaim for this album. I know the critics aren’t influential here, but it could help them a bit at least.

Hot race between Alabama Shakes and Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick should win; Alabama Shakes likely WILL win…but they each have an enormous amount of support in their respective categories.

Because the Grammy voters tend to lean older/more traditional when it comes to actual awards (less so with nominations) – I’m going with Alabama Shakes. It’d be a worthy win.

Alabama Shakes has a good shot at winning, I agree, and I wouldn’t hate the win. But when people look back, it’ll mean nothing. If Kendrick wins, it will go down in history as one of the best wins in this category, and it’s an album that totally defines both music and the status quo for 2015. Kendrick NEEDS to win this. I will be extremely disappointed if he does not (but what else is new with the Grammys)?

Can you tell me the difference between “critically acclaimed album that sold well” and “commercially successful that got great reviews”? lol

Personally I’d like it to be Kendrick although I’m betting on Alabama Shake sas it is.

Question: If Abels wins (not saying he will), will Lana and Ed get Grammys too because they featured? Sorry, not hijacking thread just genuinely still confused as to if featured artists get a Grammy too or not.

Kendrick had the best reviews and one of the best selling albums while Taylor had the best sales and one of the best rated albums.
