The Avett Brothers and John Fullbright don’t have a chance.  Bonnie Raitt hasn’t been a factor in years.  The Lumineers scored a BNA nom, but that won’t be enough to stop Mumford & Sons.  This is the best chance and might be the only category that M&S win.

SHOULD WIN: Mumford & Sons, Babel
WILL WIN: Mumford & Sons, Babel

Bonnie Raitt will win this very easily.

I am surprised that Bonnie Raitt was submitted to this category.

I wonder if this category will be televised. This type of music has really broken out into the mainstream. Putting this in the live ceremony would be one way to acknowledge this.

I doubt this category will be televised.  The usual categories will be televised.

What are the usual categories? There are at least two categories every year that aren’t normally televised. I don’t know if it will be this one, but if they want to televise something for Mumford & Sons, this would be the category. Plus, you have The Lumineers – Best New Artist nominees, Bonnie Raitt – a big Grammy favorite, and the Avett Brothers – a group that got big Grammy exposure a few years back. It’s not a category full of obscure acts, so I’d be fine with it being televised. If they can televise Comedy Album, then they should televise something like this.

I’m just now realizing that this category is STACKED.  It deserves to be televised.

Back in 2009, everyone and their mama on Goldderby thought Best Dance Recording or Best Dance Album would be televised since Lady GaGa was smoking hot then.  Neither were televised.  It would be a nice change if this category was televised.  However, I won’t hold my breath.  Last year, the televised categories were from the list below.

    The usual categories are:

    Record Of The Year
    Album Of The Year
    Song Of The Year
    Best New Artist
Best Pop Solo Performance/Best Pop Duo/Group Performance/Best Pop Vocal Album
    Best Rock Album
    Best R&B Album
    Best Rap/Sung Collaboration/Best Rap Album
    Best Country Album

Best Rap/Sung and Best Rap Album weren’t televised last year; Best Rap Performance was.

Best Rock Album wasn’t televised last year either; Best Rock Performance was.

There have been years where stuff like Comedy Album and Soundtrack Album were presented on TV. There is really no set list (besides the big four), even though I’m not betting on Americana Album being presented live at the awards.

You’re right about those categories being televised last year.  I totally forgot.  I should’ve been more specific.  It seems like the same genres are televised every year.  Every blue moon, we get categories like Best Comedy Album and Best Compilation Album televised.  NARAS likes to keep it simple.  I remember back in the day, they would televise categories in the Gospel and Jazz fields.  What happened to that?
