Fincher is a big name, and it’s JT’s big comeback video with Jay-Z, done old Hollywood style. It’s kinda hard not to see him as frontrunner.

If there’s an upset, I think it will be Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for sheer scope. Drake and YYY have cool videos and would be deserving winners as well. This actually a very good line-up, even if I wouldn’t necessarily have voted for all of them.

    Prediction Rankings:

    1. Suit & Tie
    2. Can’t Hold Us
    3. Started From The Bottom
    4. Sacrilege
    5. Carry On

    Personal Rankings:

    1. Suit & Tie
    2. Sacrilege
    3. Started From The Bottom
    4. Carry On
    5. Can’t Hold Us

This is David Fincher’s first Best Direction nomination at the VMAs since 1991, and his 8th nomination overall (he’s actually still the most nominated director ever, even with the long-ass break).  I could see how he could win it.  Plus, the video for “Suit & Tie” is pretty well-directed.  (If it were me, though, I would’ve nominated Floria Sigismondi and given her the award; she’s been on fire this year).

I could see any of the other videos pulling a win/upset, though.

Winner: Justin Timberlake f. Jay-Z, “Suit & Tie”
Runner Up: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis f. Ray Dalton, “Can’t Hold Us”
