Break-up songs is a huge topic, so I thought I’d narrow it down to the best one that one Grammys, which I’m sure is still a huge number (everything from “I Will Survive” to “You Oughta Know” to “Rolling in the Deep”). What are your favorite end-of-love songs that won Grammys?

I would say Toni Braxton has two of the best break-up songs ever in “Un-Break My Heart” (which could be interpreted as a break-up song) and “He Wasn’t Man Enough For Me”.

“Somebody That I Used To Know” by Gotye featuring Kimbra

This song has been interpreted many different ways but I think it fits here.

I Will Always Love You Whitney Houston

My favorite story about this legendary gospel / R&B rendition of Dolly Parton’s country classic is that Houston herself completed the vocal arrangement.

When the record company objected to the a capella introduction, Houston enlisted the (then) star power of her costar from The Bodyguard Kevin Costner to advocate for her work. Of course, the rest is show business hustory.

“The Lucky One” and “How’s The World Treating You?” are two break up songs that helped Alison Krauss score two of her 27 Grammy award wins!

A break up song meant for Patsy Cline named “Blue” helped LeAnn Rimes score one of her two Grammy award wins.

God bless you and LeAnn and Alison always!!!

    Holly

P.S. “Blue” was also named Best Country Song in early 1997.

All three Toni Braxton tracks mentioned above would be there for me (“Un-break My Heart”, “He Wasn’t Man Enough” and “Another Sad Love Song”).

“Whats Love Got to Do With It?” would be my other one too.

I heard “Somebody That I Used To Know” for the first time in a couple years this weekend. Now that it’s not so unavoidable, I forgot how haunting it actually is.
