“Despacito” will likely win, but if anyone is going to spoil that, I could see it being Portugal. The Man. Respected alt rock band with a breakout song that is Grammy friendly… Sounds like a winner with a more similar narrative to Twenty One Pilots than Imagine Dragons… “Thunder” would be the most mediocre winner of this category ever.

I don’t think “Thunder” deserves a Grammy either, but it’s not like the Grammys are super judicious, right? But I agree “Feel It Still” stands a decent chance, for the same reasons you said.

It’s actually the most deserving among these nominees, if you combine commercial success and quality. At the time the Academy was voting in the second round, it was still at #5 (Billboard Charts) whereas the other hits couldn’t be found.

Thunder is not the most deserving based on quality; it’s the worst song of this bunch. And they’re not supposed to award based solely on success. Is it a factor? Sure – the more successful a song is, the more familiar voters are with it – but it’s not supposed to be.

And they vote based on what happened in the entire year, not just the two weeks of voting.

Coldplay being nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album means nothing in the grand scheme of things. It was an extremely weak year for Pop albums. If any song upsets “Despacito” here, it won’t be “Something Just Like This.” Let’s face it; Coldplay are just a name-check nowadays.
