Ed Sheeran would have been a lock for this and Pop Solo, with or without “Perfect” peaking right now, but “Perfect” (w/the Beyoncé remix) and the fact that he was viewed as “snubbed” just solidified his two wins. Don’t see how anyone else wins.

One can’t say it’s a lock when it failed to get AoTY nomination. Yes the Grammy’s didn’t want to risk having him sweep, but at the same time, they relied on the perception that Divide was not critically acclaimed. There isn’t consensus around whether it is deserving of AoTY nomination. Had the album been both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, it would’ve made it harder for the BRP to snub him.

I’d say he’s very likely to win, but it’s not a lock.

The Academy snubbed commercially-successful albums in this category before, like The 20/20 Experience, which also failed to get an AoTY nomination that year.

Before the release of Perfect, Gaga would’ve stood a chance here. But now it’s not the case anymore. Perfect showed that there is more than just one good song on the album. And it’ll sway voters.

People that actually listened to Divide know that there is more than one good song on the album. Perfect isn’t even the best song.

None of the other albums in the category have AOTY nominations, so by default, the one that was expected to be in AOTY is the frontrunner.

Get real! Lady Gaga did NOT stand a chance of winning this category, whether “Perfect” was a hit or not. Your unhealthy obsession for Gaga is clouding your judgement.

Ed Sheeran will win here. Gaga/Kesha/Lana will all split votes among their similar fan bases.

I think that’s one of the main reasons why Ed is gonna win both awards.

If Million Reasons or Praying were smash hits(even if less so than Shape of You), Gaga/Kesha would win Pop Solo, because the songs are Grammy-baits. But they were just okay, so it’s not gonna happen.

And Ed sold way too much to win less than 2 awards. Since he’s only nominated in 2, he’ll win both. The voters won’t risk trying to divide(haha) the categories and end up giving him nothing.

Ed is getting this one as his consolation.

What makes me laugh hard is the fact that they snubbed him but he’ll be coming stonger for the next year.

    – Perfect will be topped BB100 next week.
    – End Game is coming. It’s doing well and it isn’t even added to playlists of radios yet. A music video is set.
    – he’s a part of Eminem’s Revival, which will probably get nominated for Best Rap Album.
    – Reputation will probably get nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.

I can’t help laughing. I’d like to say to BRP “At least you tried.”

He’ll get more noms next year.

Revival and Reputation won’t count for Ed’s noms. The genre categories(Rap and Pop) only recognize the main artist, main producer and engineers/mixers.
And the new AOTY rule only recognizes people involved with at least 33% of the album. Ed is featured in one song in each, less than 10%. But he could be nominated and win for the songs anyway, if that’s what you meant.

I don’t think Perfect is gonna smash, anyway. Beyoncé never promotes her songs properly. But even if Ed promotes the hell out of it, it could be long forgotten by the time they vote.

^^Maybe they won’t forget like they did with Thinking Out Loud.

Perfect was a hit before Beyonce. It never left US iTunes since it’s been released. Without zero promo, the song was charting BB100. I think it has a potential to become a second Thinking Out Loud.

I know, I just meant that if it depends on her, it won’t be a big hit. Ed doesn’t need her to promote it, but if he wins a Grammy with Divide, which is very likely, the version eligible for contention will be the remix.

I don’t think it has potential to win in the GF because it’s a remix. And I don’t think it will win Pop/Duo either. Unless Ed goes home empty-handed this time.

That wouldn’t be fair (Even JT won some despite losing all the pop categories)

Honey, Ed Sheeran won’t go home empty-handed. The academy has too much of a hard-on for him.

Oh please. End Game is already top 20 at Pop radio.

What do you mean hasn’t left US iTunes.  That’s an achievement now? and that was definitely not top 100 (in general) coz I check regularly.(Like daily)
