Who will win the 2017 Grammy for Best R&B Album?December 14, 2016 at 9:23 am #1201969433
This is between Lalah and BJ only. Lalah has won a Grammy during each of the last three consecutive ceremonies in the R&B field. She’s obviously become a favorite.
I love both of their albums, so either of them taking it is fine with me. But my money’s on Lalah.December 14, 2016 at 9:46 am #1201969463
My prediction here is Lalah Hathaway with BJ The Chicago Kid as the possible spoiler.
Lalah Hathaway has picked up three Grammys in three consecutive years and has name recognition on her side. “Angel” was a big adult R&B radio hit, and without another big name here, it should be an easy walk for her.
BJ The Chicago Kid may pose a threat. He’s up for three Grammys, but many acts have garnered three or more R&B nominations but ended up losing to more popular and deserving acts.
Mya and Mint Condition (is this the latter’s first nomination?) should be happy they even managed nominations.
Lalah Hathaway it is.

Nobody knows Terrace Martin. He’s out. While Mint Condition received their first Grammy nomination, they aren’t winning. Mya is just here for the ride. BJ The Chicago Kid could upset. He scored multiple nominations. However, Lalah Hathaway has become a Grammy favorite all of a sudden. She has won three R&B Grammys in three years. I’m tired of her winning. Hathaway’s win here will be similar to Chaka Khan’s win in 2007.
SHOULD WIN: BJ The Chicago Kid, In My Mind
WILL WIN: Lalah Hathaway, Lalah Hathaway LiveFebruary 5, 2017 at 11:05 am #1202003623
i’m surprised that the actual Goldderby odds are:
1. In My Mind – BJ the Chicago Kid (597 predicting it to win) 8/13
2. Lalah Hathaway Live – Lalah Hathaway (180 predicting it to win) 4/1
this category is a “name check”.
yeah, Robert Glasper won here over R. Kelly but Glasper’s album was full of other performers what definetely helped.

I think Terrace Martin could upsetFebruary 7, 2017 at 3:42 pm #1202005134
Terrace Martin does not have enough name recognition to upset here.
